NEW: Russian high-ranking military officials, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, continue presenting greatly exaggerated claims of Russian frontline advances that do not correspond to battlefield realities in order to present a falsely constructed narrative of pervasive Russian military success. 🧵(1/2) Other Key Takeaways: Putin also used the Russian Joint Grouping of Forces (GoF) visit to reject the possibility of any Russian territorial concessions as part of potential peace negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. Russian high-ranking military officials’ exaggerated claims of Russian advances are part of a broader cognitive warfare effort to falsely portray Russian advances as sweeping across the battlefield such that Ukraine and its Western partners should capitulate to Russia’s negotiation demands. Russia appears to be reconstituting its armored vehicle assets across Russia despite simultaneously engaging in large-scale combat operations in Ukraine, indicating that the Russian military has not fully abandoned efforts to use mechanized vehicles at scale in modern war. The Russian military likely assesses that it can employ mechanized vehicles at scale against adversaries that have not mastered drone warfare, or possibly against Ukraine if Russian forces succeed in eventually breaking out of positional warfare. The Kremlin continued the seizure of assets belonging to European companies operating in Russia as part of the ongoing efforts to coerce European states into favorable behavior toward Russia. An unidentified drone violated Moldovan airspace, crashed, and exploded near Scaieni, Donduseni District — approximately 30 kilometers within Moldova.

The Minotaur class, also known as the Swiftsure class, were light cruisers designed as a modified version of the Fiji class, incorporating lessons from wartime experience. Authorized in 1941, they were given relatively low construction priority, and only two were finished before the war ended, in June 1944 and May 1945. Arriving so late, they saw little significant action. HMS Swiftsure served as flagship of the British Pacific Fleet's cruiser squadron under Rear Admiral Cecil Harcourt and was present for the Japanese surrender at Hong Kong. HMS Superb, the third ship of the original design, was completed to a modified plan that helped shape the later Tiger class. HMS Minotaur was transferred to Canada as HMCS Ontario and went on to a long career.

⚓ Ukrainian Navy strikes Russia’s six Su-34M fighter bombers with Neptune system 🚀 The Ukrainian Navy said it had struck the Borisoglebsk air base in Russia’s Voronezh region with a Neptune coastal missile system overnight on Thursday. Six Su-34M fighter bombers were hit in the attack, it added in a post to social media. 🔥 The strike destroyed aviation equipment. There was repeated detonation and a fire at the air base, the Ukrainian Navy said. 💣 “The Su-34M is capable of carrying several guided and high-explosive aerial bombs, and missiles of various types. It is one of Russia’s key aircraft used for glide bomb strikes on the positions of Ukraine’s defense forces and near-front villages,” the message reads. 📉 Damage to Russia’s Su-34M considerably weakens the enemy’s aviation capabilities and decreases the intensity of use of tactical aircraft in defined sections of the frontline.

The AOPS was never intended to embark a CH-148. It was always the intention that a helicopter would be from the RCMP or CCG.

HMS Hawke Edgar-class protected cruiser (1891) Spent most of her early career in the Mediterranean Fleet, conveying relief crews to naval stations. Joined the Home Fleet in 1907. Collided with SS Olympic in 1911 (whose captain would go down with Titanic 11 months later). At the outbreak of the war Hawke joined the 10th Cruiser Squadron and was dispatched on blockading duties between the Shetlands and Norway. While providing escort duties for the inbound CEF convoy, Hawke was torpedoed by U-9 as she steamed to rejoin her squadron after picking up mail. The sinking went unnoticed for several hours until the rest of the squadron was attacked by U-9 and the fleet realized that Hawke had not responded to the orders to retreat.
