IRON FIST FRIDAY Vol. 423: Daredevil and the Heroes for Hire shared one of the most entertaining crossovers of the early 1980s. To promote it, Marvel commissioned artist Denys Cowan to draw these two house ads showing Daredevil, Power Man, and Iron Fist teasing their appearances in one another's titles. The two-part event was a strategic move by Marvel to funnel readers from Frank Miller’s smash-hit Daredevil over to Mary Jo Duffy and Kerry Gammill's underrated Power Man and Iron Fist. The ad for Daredevil #178 (on sale Sept. 22) shows Luke ready to throw a punch while tearing through the page, but in the actual story, Foggy Nelson hilariously hires the Heroes for Hire to act as Matt Murdock's personal bodyguards. Meanwhile, in the ad for Power Man and Iron Fist #77 (on sale Oct. 13), Danny playfully asks Matt if he got kicked out of his own magazine (he wasn't, of course). In the issue itself, the three of them officially team up to fight a Russian bruiser and a deadly assassin. Decades later, Daredevil would work alongside Luke Cage, Danny Rand, and Jessica Jones to form the street-level Defenders! Do you have a favorite Marvel crossover from the Bronze Age?
