Bringing medicines back from China starts with AI on the factory floor.
Last week, our Founder & CEO, Dr. Ajikumar "Aji" Parayil, testified at a U.S. House field hearing on AI, arguing that deploying AI in biomanufacturing can rebuild American manufacturing jobs, help win the AI race with China, and secure domestic production of essential medicines.
His central message: the United States does not have to choose between rebuilding manufacturing jobs and deploying AI. In biomanufacturing, the two advance together.
“The false choice is jobs or AI,” says Aji. “In biomanufacturing, deploying AI makes our workers more productive, lets us produce more, and lets us hire more people – right here in America. It is also how we bring the making of essential medicines back from China. We took a plant that had been written off and put people back to work with advanced technology, and we have the capacity to do far more – in partnership with the U.S. government.”

For the first time ever, Monk Fruit Sweetener is being manufactured at commercial scale in the United States – right at our biomanufacturing facility in Augusta, Georgia.
Monk Fruit Sweetener – Made by Manus® is a zero-calorie, non-glycemic sweetener that is about 350 times sweeter than sugar, with an optimized mogroside profile that delivers clean, rounded sweetness and no bitter aftertaste.
It is the latest breakthrough from our proven technology and scale-up platform for bioalternatives, reinventing how the world’s most valuable molecules are made, across sweeteners, flavors, and the building blocks of essential medicines.
We are supplying samples for formulation now, and will debut the ingredient to the industry at @IFT FIRST 2026 in Chicago, July 12-15, with broader commercial availability to follow.

America’s essential medicine supply chains depend on domestic biomanufacturing capacity.
Manus recently welcomed elected officials and representatives from @HHSGov Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (@ASPRgov) to break ground on a domestic biomanufacturing facility for artemisinin – the starting material for the world’s frontline antimalarial therapy – at its Augusta BioFacility.
The expansion brings cGMP capabilities to the site, combining biomanufacturing and flow chemistry under one roof to onshore U.S. production of critical essential medicines.
Thank you, @WFXGFOX54 News and reporter Daniel Matesevac for covering this important milestone. Watch their news segment: wfxg.com/community/manus-bre…

Last week’s groundbreaking at the Manus Augusta BioFacility marked an important milestone for domestic biomanufacturing and essential-medicines production in the United States.
The new biomanufacturing facility for artemisinin – the starting material for the world’s frontline antimalarial therapy – marks the first build of a federal-private partnership.
The expansion brings new cGMP capabilities to the site, combining biomanufacturing and flow chemistry under one roof to onshore U.S. production of critical essential medicines.
“Partnerships like this one with Manus help us expand domestic manufacturing capacity and reduce reliance on overseas sources," said Wayland Coker, MBA, CSCP, Acting Deputy Director, Center for Industrial Base Management & Supply Chain, Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response, @HHSGov @ASPRgov . “By working with industry, we can move faster and ensure critical medicines are available when Americans need them the most.”
First announced in 2024 in partnership with @HHS Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response Industrial Base Management and Supply Chain Office (IBMSC) under the Defense Production Act Title III program, the project has since grown to $47.4 million.
Earlier this year, Manus and HHS ASPR expanded the partnership to add shikimic acid – the starting material for oseltamivir, the flu antiviral better known as Tamiflu. Manus’ bioalternatives scale-up platform has the potential to secure domestic production of more than 50 essential medicines.
We were proud to welcome Wayland Coker, Acting Deputy Director, Center for Industrial Base Management & Supply Chain, Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response, HHS; U.S. Rep. Rick Allen, R-Ga., 12th District; U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., 1st District, who made his second visit to the facility in seven months; and Augusta Mayor Garnett L. Johnson, alongside leadership from HHS ASPR’s IBMSC office, the Gates Foundation, which has previously funded Manus' artemisinin development program, and Manus’ construction and engineering partners.

Recently, the skilled labor shortage in the U.S. has come into sharper focus. As highlighted in @thehill, the U.S. doesn’t have enough workers to meet the demands of critical industries – and that constraint poses a threat to not only economic growth, but national security as well.
That’s why programs like our new BioMADE-supported apprenticeship initiative are more important than ever.
"The biomanufacturing industry is growing, and the workforce needs to scale with it," says Christine Santos, Chief Technology Officer of Manus. This program puts apprentices directly on the plant floor, in a real production environment, and the curriculum we develop – drawing on @universityofga expertise – can serve as a blueprint for the broader industry."
Training America’s biomanufacturing workforce is critical in meeting the needs of a growing industry at scale.
At Manus we’re accelerating the transition to BioAlternatives by delivering the benefits of biomanufacturing, today.
