I am super grateful that the @NSF's chemistry division, and the American public decided to support my group's research on photochemistry for the next three years! 💰🧪 This is my first major funding award. Thanks goes to all previous group members and mentors over the decades.

The fascinating story of Thalidomide: how this most notorious drug on the planet, banned in the 1960s, made an incredible comeback and revolutionized the treatment of myeloma. I will also highlight one person whose role is not recognized: Without Dr. Leif Bergsagel there will be no thalidomide for myeloma. Read on #MedTwitter The thalidomide story has many takeaways and lessons. It shows drug development from bedside to bench and back to bedside. It shows the power and impact of astute clinicians It shows the power of investigator courage The role of serendipity

Congratulations, Stuart Schreiber and Pete Schultz!
The Welch Foundation is pleased to announce the 2025 Welch Award in Chemistry recipients: Dr. Stuart L. Schreiber of @Harvard and Arena BioWorks, and Dr. Peter G. Schultz of @scrippsresearch. Both are being recognized for their groundbreaking contributions to the field of chemical biology. Dr. Schreiber is honored for his profound discoveries using chemical probes to understand the chemical machinery of the cell and for developing therapies based on this knowledge. Dr. Schultz is recognized for his pioneering contributions to creating new letters in the alphabet of life, and the leveraging of chemical diversity to discover novel therapeutics and materials. Each will receive a $500,000 award this October in recognition of their lasting impact in the field of chemistry. Learn more about their work and the award at welch1.org/news-reports/news…

Manvendra Singh dreamt of becoming a pediatrician before he fell in love with organic chemistry. He still loves children and his young ones inspire him to approach designing diverse and complex compounds in the same way they approach life: with fearlessness, creativity, and awe.

Hopping on this rad #ORPGRC post to say that I am so excited to chair next year's conference with @Humulonimbus! Our vice chairs are @DMart_82 and @KUhokie42! Please follow us for #ORPGRC related updates as we aim for an exciting and diversified ochem conference! #OCHEMRULES!
After a great time at chem summer camp (aka ORP GRC), meeting some awesome chemists like @radscientist_ and @xhimichka, catching up with @OChem_Grenning , @HilinskiGroup and @SieberLabVCU I came home to the best harvest of my “budding” gardening (farming?) career!

Welcome to another awesome pair of issues from @JOC_OL! This time in #JOrgChem we feature a cool cover of a “blueprint” for synthesizing complex lactones pubs.acs.org/toc/joceah/87/2…. Meanwhile in #OrgLett we present a unique dihomohalogenation methodology pubs.acs.org/toc/orlef7/24/4… 😃

This project had about 11 crystal structures and hundreds of spectra to assign. This is still a manual labor. We posted .sdf files at our GitHub repository, together with the codes for figures and analyses. Hope you like what we did. Happy Nu Year!

We collaborated with Elles group to measure the femtosecond events following photon absorption. Protonation of the amine is key to prevent the charge transfer from amine to the excited carbonyl. And we measured the quantum yield for product formation.
