This allows the shoulder blades to 'float' providing amazing flexibility, shock absorption and a longer stride, which is essential for running, jumping and turning.
This unique skeletal adaptation therefore places greater stress on the muscles, tendons and joints, making welfare checks of these areas paramount when caring for a horse.

We are thrilled to be hosting Exercising Kindness for a talk and tea next Sunday. Raising money for both us and Safe Haven for Donkeys, it is set to be a lovely event.
Jenny Seagrove will be presenting about Mane Chance, Anna Harrison will be talking about Safe Haven for Donkeys and we are also delighted that animal ambassador, Peter Egan, will also be presenting about his welfare work too (for a number of charities!).

We love self-selection here at Mane Chance. This is a buffet station, in which the buckets contain different waters - today we had chamomile, beetroot and turmeric flavours.
The station allows the horses to approach at will, have a sniff and/or taste and choose what they would like to have. It's fascinating to see which they choose and really good for them to process the different smells and tastes.

Can we reach our target, do you think? We are so grateful for all your donations towards our hay appeal following the summer drought when we were forced to feed our winter hay to the horses as there was no grass for them.
We have already received one delivery to replace our stocks which was a very welcome sight - thank you! But that hay will only last us a couple of months and it would be amazing to know that more was on the way.....

Meet Hugo - he is officially the world's tallest living horse! Recognised by Guinness World Records, he is an incredible 6'5" to his withers (the ridge at the base of the neck and the point that all horses are measured to).
Hugo is a Shire horse living in Northamptonshire and whilst he is not the tallest ever recorded horse - that record belongs to another Shire called Sampson who measured 7'2" to his withers in 1850 - Hugo is still growing! There's still time!!
