This weekend @XPRNetwork faced what @paulgrey called “the most advanced enemy with the most advanced technology”. Today 10,732,951,536 ethereum:0xd7efb00d12c2c13131fd319336fdf952525da2af is staked, above all my counts since September. Did you add to your stake? 👇
My counts: 10.667B on 20 Sep, 10.712B on 2 Oct, 10.727B on 10 Oct and 10.733B today, block 409,462,106. Sunday’s unstaking ran at twice a normal day and the total still stayed above 10 October. The chain didn’t stop either, 99.98% of block slots filled since the attack began.
87% of what the attackers tried to cash out never left the chain. Since Sunday the team has new defenses running, and as a result @XPRNetwork will be the first blockchain in the world to implement some pretty serious anti hacker measures.

We were able to recreate the entire process used by the attackers by reverse-engineering the smart contracts and then using AI agents to identify specific vulnerabilities. The next step is to perform external testing to detect vulnerabilities and help the team patch each one.
Two contracts on @XPRNetwork were exploited on Saturday, ten hours apart. By Sunday morning the 1,143,288 USDC from the first one was back in @LOAN_Protocol, the attacker's remaining 7.21M ethereum:0xd7efb00d12c2c13131fd319336fdf952525da2af were locked, and the hole was patched. On most chains an exploit like this ends with the money bridged out and gone 👇
The attacker was software. The webauthn exploit made 67 accounts borrow on LOAN in a single transaction at 02:35:36 UTC and sent the USDC to the bridge 64 seconds later. Paul - protonnz said it plainly: the network is up against people with the most advanced AI there is. That is the threat model for every chain from now on, and code nobody has read in years is the cheapest thing to hit.
Every layer did its part. The bridge never paid the USDC out, and at 05:08 it went back into LOAN. LOAN was paused at 03:12, 37 minutes after the first borrow, so nobody else could be dragged in. webauthn was patched at 03:46. When escrowhold, a third-party escrow, was drained at 12:24, its owner removed the contract's own permission at 13:45 so nothing else could leave. At 16:39, 19 block producers, madblocks among them, executed a multisig that replaced the attacker's keys and locked the 7.21M ethereum:0xd7efb00d12c2c13131fd319336fdf952525da2af still on his account. The only part that reached an exchange is the 85,887,410 ethereum:0xd7efb00d12c2c13131fd319336fdf952525da2af he sent to @kucoincom, and KuCoin has the memo.
None of this needed a fork or a rollback. It works because accounts on XPR have names and permissions the chain understands, multisig is native, and the producers can act together within hours when something is plain theft. On most chains nobody can do that, and the money is gone before anyone wakes up.
This morning the team went further. protonnz says the changes are in and the blue team is in control, and calls XPR the first chain with anti-hacker measures like these. The defense is being automated too: agents that test every contract the way an attacker would, around the clock. On XPR that costs no gas, so it can run on everything, third-party contracts included.
That is what makes XPR and @MetalBlockchain stronger for what they are built for. A credit union on a Metal subnet needs a chain whose own governance can stop theft within hours decreasing to minutes, and that gets harder to attack every month. The first part already worked this weekend.
If you build on XPR, when was your contract last tested?

A third-party escrow contract on @XPRNetwork, escrowhold, was drained today at 12:24 UTC through a bug in its own code. The chain and WebAuth weren't involved. 85,887,410 ethereum:0xd7efb00d12c2c13131fd319336fdf952525da2af of it went to @kucoincom a minute later 👇
I cannot elaborate but we are being extremely strategic. We are up against the most advanced enemy with the most advanced technology in the world. We are working extremely diligently and we will win this. Today we made some big changes and it will never happen again.

we are up against the most dedicated hackers with the most advanced ai in the world and we will never stop defending the network. this is war and we will win.
The 1,143,288 USDC is back in @LOAN_Protocol since yesterday, and since 16:39 UTC the attacker can't move the 7.21M ethereum:0xd7efb00d12c2c13131fd319336fdf952525da2af left on unodo. LOAN stays paused while it's unwound 👇
If you use LOAN: all 16 markets are paused, so nobody can withdraw, repay or get liquidated right now. The 67 accounts used in the exploit still show the borrow from 02:35:36 UTC yesterday. That's what the unwind has to clear. Is one of them yours?
Still open: 85,887,410 ethereum:0xd7efb00d12c2c13131fd319336fdf952525da2af from the escrowhold drain, about $169K today, went to @kucoincom at 12:25 UTC yesterday under memo 2097611375. escrowhold is paused and its owner put back the tokens he had moved out.
madblocks is validating on @MetalBlockchain again. New period until 21 Nov at a 4.4% fee, with room for 1,573,348 $METAL. If you want to delegate:

Update: at 13:04 UTC unodo swapped 537,608 ethereum:0xd7efb00d12c2c13131fd319336fdf952525da2af for 980.84 USDC on Alcor and bridged it to BNB Chain, to 0xd9e38135e17bc4e56dfc7da9fb5f659d1684a3e4. That's the same EVM wallet he signs into WebAuth with. 7.21M ethereum:0xd7efb00d12c2c13131fd319336fdf952525da2af still sits on unodo.
