A call for new aesthetics (of maps)
I've long wished that online mapping services were far richer and higher-density. They elide so much detail today! We have gloriously high-DPI screens... I want to wallow in cartographic filigree. AI of course now makes this possible: bayatlas.vercel.app
Read Mark by @colossusmag about Zuckerberg's obsession with Roman Empire etc., I never knew
One thing I’ve learned running this account is people really LOVE labeling things. This room works because it’s a mix of designs and eras. The bones of the room look like an updated Arts & Crafts home. The Cesca (Bauhaus) chair design is almost 100 years old at this point. There organic shapes with the lamp above the table. The cabinets have a MCM feel to them. Some of the light fixtures have almost an Italian modernist feel. I could go on.
Two points here 1) The lighting and tones of this home are WARM. Lighting and colors matter more than a label. 2) The best rooms combine elements from different eras. Simply searching Japandi or Mid Century Modern won’t get you to a great room that feels like you.
Developing an eye for color, light, and texture almost certainly will.

NÉVO is a contemporary coastal retreat where the tropical climate becomes part of the architecture. In Vung Tau, shaded spaces and open thresholds create a slow rhythm of movement, with changing light, breeze, and reflections shaping the experience throughout the day.
