Preach. The gold-vault comparison is spot on, and multisig is what makes Bitcoin different. Onramp's multi-institution model is a solid answer for people who want security without managing keys themselves 💯

SELF-CUSTODY HAS TAKEN A MAJOR BLOW, BUT THERE IS A WAY FORWARD @macrojack21 warns that the recent hardware wallet security failures have pointed out serious weaknesses in Bitcoin self-custody. But @MTanguma argues that if self-custody ceases to be viable, Bitcoin itself will fail. The biggest lesson from these attacks is that Bitcoiners can no longer afford to have a single point of failure when securing their wealth.

Bitcoin’s assumed path to mass adoption was to teach self-sovereignty one person at a time until it reached seven billion people. After Coldcard and Ledger, @alexstanczyk doesn’t think that’s the path anymore. His read on where custody goes from here: trusting a single intermediary, whether that’s one hardware wallet maker or one custodian, stops making sense. Holding a meaningful allocation on a single device puts a heavy burden on one person, and the industry’s answer of "just do multisig" only adds complexity. So he sees two paths for anyone who wants to own real bitcoin directly. Multi-vendor multisig for the people willing to learn it, and Multi-Institution Custody for everyone else. MIC didn’t click for him at first. Now: "After all these things have happened, it looks like you guys [Onramp] were way ahead of the curve. You were ahead of the entire industry." Appreciate it, Alex 🤝

Trump says inflation would help pay off the debt "very rapidly." Spending cuts won't happen. Higher taxes won't pass. Debasement is the plan, and it's the whole case for hard assets. In 2026, many of us had to fundamentally rethink how we custody our Bitcoin. Having a portion of my stack secured with @OnrampBitcoin’s Multi-Institution Custody helps me sleep better at night. Use this link to book a free call and learn how it works: onrampbitcoin.com/bn
Hold your own keys and the risk sits with you. Leave it on an exchange and it sits with them. There's a third way. With Multi-Institution Custody, three institutions protect your bitcoin. None can move it alone. Nothing moves without you. Secured by three. Controlled by you.

Really enjoyed this interview on America’s two-tier economy: explosive growth in AI, while government spending and debt cripple the rest of the economy -- and consumers.
Since Nixon ended the gold standard, technology has been racing the money printer. In Europe, the printer is winning. In the US, it's trench warfare. @profstonge joins @macrojack21 on The Last Trade interview series to discuss... ⚡ AI is 1997, not 2000 ⚡ Data centers vs. nuclear plants ⚡ The case for going faster ⚡ The escalator economy ⚡ Bitcoin as the life raft

Most bitcoin buys come with a second job: moving the coins somewhere safe. With Onramp, that job is gone. Buys can settle straight into Multi-Institution Custody. No interim steps and no room for error. Secured by three. Controlled by you.

Bonds are the "safe" half of 60/40. They are now 74 months into their longest and deepest drawdown since 1976. Adjusted for CPI, holders have lost more than 22%, and CPI is the generous yardstick. Priced in gold, they have lost more than half. (h/t @charliebilello)

I had a great time on @RobinSeyr's show talking about why AI will make every bitcoiner live like a king. Inside you'll find: - Why Intelligence Is About to Get as Cheap as Light - The $713 Billion AI Buildout Happening This Year - What the Industrial Revolution Tells Us About Holding Scarce Money - Bitcoin Isn't a Hedge Against Collapse. It's How You Capture Abundance 1. Intelligence Is Following Light's Path to Nearly Free 150 years ago, an hour of light cost about three hours of wages and was a fire hazard. Today it costs 0.7 seconds of the average wage. AI is on the same curve: metered, sold by the unit, and falling exponentially. 2. Nearly All Economic Growth Came After Cheap Electricity GDP barely moved for most of history, then went exponential after 1880 as electricity became abundant and metered. Cheap light meant 24-hour supply chains and night shifts. We're in the very early stages of the same buildout for AI, with second- and third-order effects we can't imagine yet. 3. Friction Is 7% of GDP, and AI Can Shrink It Shopping around, switching providers and missing information together cost roughly 7% of GDP. AI can take a day of comparing car insurance quotes down to minutes. The savings reach businesses first, then consumers, as long as markets stay competitive. 4. In the Industrial Revolution, Scarce Money Won Money was backed by gold and prices fell in real terms, so simply holding gold increased purchasing power. Many people deep in AI today describe their holdings the same way: gold, land and some bitcoin. 5. $713 Billion of Hyperscaler Capex in a Single Year AI infrastructure spending this year is on the scale of two Apollo programs, even after adjusting for inflation. That spending makes some people uneasy, but the payoff is consumer surplus that reaches people who never touch the tools themselves. 6. Bitcoin Is the Purest AI Trade Most people pitch Bitcoin as a hedge against government bankruptcy. I think the better story is that it's how you fully capture the abundance AI creates. The same gains get inflated away if you hold dollars. 7. How to Escape the "Permanent Underclass" Specific, repeatable skills like accounting get automated first. Generalists who stay curious across fields and can put what they want into words will direct the AIs that do the work. Plus Robin's case for measuring your wealth in months of runway. Full episode in the comments below!

Many people consider their Bitcoin safe if they keep it on an exchange. But history tells a very different story. This week’s allegations against Coinbase are a reminder of the risks of trusting a single institution to hold your keys.
Since 2011, about 1.6 million bitcoin has been lost or stolen at custodians holding the keys alone, roughly $135 billion at today's price. The cause changes each cycle, from hacks to fraud to a deleted wallet. The structure stays the same: one institution, one point of failure.

Save a dollar at the start of 2020. Six years later it buys about 78 cents' worth of stuff. Save it in bitcoin instead and it buys $8.78 worth. You didn't need to trade, time anything, or follow a single headline. Focus on your craft, save in the right unit, and you came out ahead of nearly everyone. This week, on The Last Trade... ⚡️ Bitcoin ETFs log their biggest inflow day of 2026 ⚡️ BlackRock publishes research on AI agents needing machine-native money ⚡️ Howard Marks says the problem is the dollar, then stops one step short of the answer ⚡️ More attacks on crypto holders, single points of failure, plus the FBI data leak ⚡️Why every outcome of the AI buildout ends with printing dollars [@MTanguma @macrojack21 @BackslashBTC]
