Took the cart out and ran it around with the turbine running. Tachometer fixed, rear bushings and shocks replaced. Having the engine running makes a difference, under heavy acceleration I think the drive is browning out a bit but with the engine supplementing the battery I dont have any issues.
Shakedown cruise of the Turboencartulator. And boy howdy did things shake. The old rear shocks started leaking, motor mount came loose, e-brake cable pulled loose. That was the first day. Then went to shoot some video of the thing running with the turbine on only to find the engine wouldn’t start. The tachometer died which controls the startup sequence. Guessing the ignitor EMPed the input from the magnetic pickup.
Got a new, smaller diameter master cylinder and new drums for the brakes. They are going to take a bit to bed in with the shoes. Also installed a thermostat on the radiator fan to keep it off until it gets hot enough. Much quieter now. I need to find some new wheels/tires for it.
Added a charge port for the pack and started charging at 1 amp. It’s slowly coming up to voltage. Found out the Orion BMS’s output to trigger a relay to turn on and off the charger isn’t not working. I know this model had some options deleted, I may need tonpopnitnopen to see if I can add it back.
Hooked up the BMS to the pack. Bunch of cell banks are a little lower than then rest. Hopefully they will balance out. I’m rigging up a slow charger to get them balanced with the Orion BMS. Crossing my fingers there are no major issues. I really don’t want to take the pack apart.
Got the plate drilled to hold the BMS, zombieverter, recharge resistor, and fans. Also got the mount done to hold the battery box down to the rail. It’s being held to two of the crossmembers using some structural epoxy and two pieces of DOM cut in half. This fixes another issue as well.
Mounted the contactors and the shunt last night. Cut a piece of aluminum to mount the BMS, recharge resistor, and fans on this morning. When I’m not feeling lazy I’ll work on it some more.
The new enclosure seems to be slightly larger than the other one I have. Barely fits. Mounting strategy is going to have to change a little too.
Finished turbine control panel. The box itself is an off the shelf Hammond enclosure. The top I had cut and bent at @OSHCutInc. It did come about 1/16” narrower than print and between that and I measured a little short, it didn’t fit. I was able to mill off the ends of the enclosure which makes a nice fit
