and it's entirely feasible technically, within another generation of the tech involved. xitter.cf/macintogdev/status/206…
This doesn't end with frontier models. Local compute is next. Within two generations: - Most will be priced out of even owning local compute - Firmware level crypographic interlocks will prevent "advanced" ASIC functions from working on unsigned models - Your Chinese-sourced/independent LLM will be ineligible for signing What non-government controlled models can accomplish will be fossilized at current levels, modulo the edges we can nibble around. Gaps will be treated as federal crimes. Reporting circumventions will be built into every OS. Sure, you can hack around some of it, just like you can easily manufacture an autosear. Up to you if getting caught is worth it, but dying in prison will be in the cards. None of this is far-fetched. This is the trajectory, as long as current institutions maintain control.

If you don't have root, it belongs to someone else.

I can't even get Opus 5.5 to review a text-only writeup of a CVE 7+ event so that I can submit it to the vendor. Daybreak Blue did all of the work. Claude cybers out on the .mds describing it.

last one of these was a 7.4 CVE. guess I'll send it so maybe in a few months, anthropic will let me into their bloody cyber program too.

can now root my Aqara M3 and M100s solely from a privileged network position. no device access required.
rooted my Aqara M3 home hub (which is of course on an IoT VLAN) they spend a lot of effort encrypting what they're exfiltrating to AWS even in memory. this report might get spicy by the time I'm through.

The corporate response to this will be rapidly spinning up an Apple rent-seeking model for everything: here you can have a halfassed api that does 20% of what you want & we charge you a subscription, or we sue you and encrypt the crap out of everything to make it miserable. War.
All around me non-techies are doing techie things with AI. I see people saying it's not happening but it's happening all around me. The guy who manages my vacation home is not a programmer, never has been. Dude in his 50s and he's managed to build with Codex a whole dashboard to manage all of his properties. Every house has smart devices (cameras, locks, AV, blinds etc.) and he used to have to bounce between a dozen apps on his phone to control each house, now he can just do it easily from this dashboard he build for himself and the AI has connected to all the devices.

All Codex Pro 200 users be certain to burn as much usage including all banked resets between now and October 29th (one week from today). The reset's value will be cut in half after that, and it makes zero sense to keep it around. Burn all weekend.

Linux on the M6 Mac Mini, Day 6 - GPU is up! Many of you noticed in yesterday's screenshot it used software rendering. I'm excited to share Omarchy on the M6 now utilizes the GPU. Almost all the drivers are done, and I'll be starting on the Apple Neural Engine bring-up soon.

Yep, Anthropic contributed zero, literally zero value. All it did was to announce Mythos, said Mythos is going to hack everything, got 50 or so companies to pay millions for access. They helped zero security researchers. Their safety classifier trips when even reading a vulnerability report. OpenAI on the other hand, rolled out sensible KYC, gave access to Daybreak Blue, and see what the community has done with GPT-5.6-Sol (daybreak version). One creates all the fear-mongering and delivers zero value, and the other quietly just carries everyone forward.
gotta give it to openai and their sane daybreak program heif heist by harsh kvmescape by paulos php2shell by lcfr gitlab rces by joaxcar chrome full chain by moyix wordpress rce by hashkitten all largely thanks to openai daybreak giving researchers access to gpt 5.6 sol. anthropic took the opposite approach, gatekeeping access, there is a lesson to be learned here

yeah, on my sony the pairing was ephemeral until next boot. figured that was standard. I did this a while ago after the gamersnexus expose (sony doesn't do anything sketchy on my model, and it was unplugged anyway)

requires proximity, but considering Matter is the backdoor I used to gain total control over my Aqara hub, the fact that any Chinese drone near my house would have full access to my (VLAN) network is pretty much intolerable even as theoretical. it would be entirely possible for anyone with a Chinese phone that was programmed to watch for my BSSID who happened to walk by to unknowingly connect to and control my network in a matter of seconds, without ever knowing.

not the same thrill as being a real hacker, but it's still a hoot
