The main purpose of Anglo-Futurism is to reveal how conservatives today have no visual language of growth. Cornish villages on the moon is not “a thought experiment” but the daft place you find yourself in when as soon as you imagine a possibility you render it dead through an attempt to make it safe, knowable, legible.
Love this. Offworld settlements tend to be depicted as modernist. But it makes sense for them to use local materials. And for their buildings to have porches for spacesuits. And maybe those buildings would be whitewashed. Voilà – a town that looks distinctly Cornish.

Looking at architecture through the binary perspective of the two camps, modernist vs. traditionalist, will never provide a satisfactory answer in my view, which I debated with my fellow panelists in this exciting discussion on @DohaDebates stage. Join us today! 👇🏻
Some mourn the loss of traditional architecture, others embrace modernity. But must we choose? Architects, designers, philosophers and global youth come together in our latest debate to ask: Can heritage, beauty and utility co-exist in today’s built world? Debate premieres October 28 ➡️youtube.com/watch?v=m4M0dn7t…

Nairn had a strong strain of misanthropy to him. For someone who liked to drink himself stupid alone, he was remarkably intolerant of others who enjoyed to have a few in company.
Oktoberfest begins today – we hope that anyone participating in the festivities will have a better time than Ian Nairn did back in 1971 – Prost!
