The rot has a board of directors.
They are not mysterious. They are not hidden.
They are on the websites of the think tanks and the boards of the defense contractors and the partner lists of the NGOs and in the PAC filings flowing to both political parties.
Raytheon. Lockheed Martin. Boeing Defense. Northrop Grumman. General Dynamics.
These companies profit directly from war.
Not from winning wars. From having wars.
The distinction matters enormously.
A war that ends is a contract that concludes.
A permanent security environment, an endless war on terror, a long-term confrontation with Russia, a generational competition with China, a forever conflict in the Middle East, is a permanent revenue stream.
The incentive is not victory.
The incentive is continuation.
And these companies employ former generals, former intelligence directors, former secretaries of state as board members and consultants.
Those former officials appear on television as "independent analysts."
They are identified as former National Security Advisor, former Deputy Secretary of Defense, former Director of Central Intelligence.
They are not identified as current board members of companies with nine-figure contracts that depend on the policies they are analyzing.
That omission is not an accident.
The infection is not in spite of this.

Electric vehicles are not that green—or clean.
An EV enters the world carrying a heavy carbon debt—typically 40% to 70% higher manufacturing emissions than a conventional petrol or diesel vehicle.
This footprint is driven by the mad rush for energy-intensive mining and refining of lithium, cobalt, and nickel. On grids still powered by coal and gas, clearing that initial carbon deficit can take 60,000 to over 100,000 kilometres of real-world driving. It is a long-term gamble on vehicle longevity.
The theoretical models are upbeat. They promise the world: the battery will last, the grid will decarbonise, the weather will stay mild, and the owner will never encounter a structural or electronic defect. Beyond the showroom, however, practical setbacks mount quickly.
While home charging adds directly to household power bills, fast-charging outside major metropolitan corridors remains invisible. For a tradesman towing a trailer or driving rural routes, the extra battery weight and reduced range under load make every long trip a serious logistical exercise.
EVs currently bypass the federal fuel excise that traditional motorists pay, despite carrying significantly heavier battery packs that increase road wear and tear.
High-voltage battery packs are exceptionally costly. Minor accidents or cell degradations can trigger a $10,000 to $25,000 battery replacement, which usually means the car is a total write-off. Because the battery is the car, a viable second-hand EV market remains doubtful.
Electrification is not the frictionless or flawless successor to liquid fuels we were promised. Treating an evolving technology as an immediate, settled victory ignores substantial physical and economic realities.
These unfortunate surprises will be borne by the well-intentioned people who actually buy them, then have to run and repair them.

When we look at an oak, a sequoia, or a balsa tree in the Amazon rainforest, we're looking at solidified carbon and oxygen.
Trees do not obtain structural mass from the soil; it comes out of thin air. Plants are built almost entirely from atmospheric gases—living, complex architectures of carbon, oxygen and sunlight. No wonder that as children, we hug them, play and climb in them, or wander through their woods, hearing them sighing in the wind.
Around 90% to 95% of a tree's dry weight is carbon and oxygen, pulled directly from atmospheric carbon dioxide. Most people assume trees draw their body from the earth, yet the soil volume beneath a canopy remains unchanged as a sapling matures into a giant.
Roots do not consume dirt to build branches; large trees leave no gaping holes in the ground. Instead, the root network is a mechanical anchor to hold the heavy tree structure upright, while absorbing water and a tiny fraction of soil minerals—nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. These are their biological multivitamins, accounting for less than 5% of final dry mass.
Through photosynthesis, sunlight breaks apart carbon dioxide and water molecules. The plant releases oxygen back into the atmosphere and chains the remaining carbon and oxygen into glucose molecules, forming complex structural polymers like cellulose and lignin.
Across the globe, an estimated 3 trillion trees hold roughly 500 billion cubic meters of wood. Every forest on Earth is in reality solidified atmosphere—hundreds of billions of tons of air trapped, structured and given physical form by living plants.
Mankind owes its survival to these friendly giants of the natural world.

Following an incredible donation from our patron, @rickygervais , after his Mortality tour, we knew we had an opportunity to create something truly life-changing for animals in Romania.
So we dreamed big.
Over the summer, our team travelled to Bucharest to help paint and prepare what will become our new community veterinary clinic.
Today, that dream is becoming a reality. Inside, there will be six surgery tables, allowing us to carry out vital neutering campaigns on a scale we have never been able to achieve before. There will also be dedicated rooms for veterinary treatment, recovery and care.
But behind every table, every room and every operation is a life. A dog who might otherwise face a lifetime of unwanted litters. A cat who desperately needs treatment but whose owner cannot afford it. A stray animal living on the streets with nowhere else to turn. A family who loves their pet but simply cannot afford the veterinary care they need.
These are the lives this clinic is being built for.
Our vision is to create a place where no animal is left suffering simply because their family has no money, and no stray animal is left without a chance of receiving the care they need.
It will also become a place of learning, giving veterinary students the opportunity to gain practical experience and become part of a new generation committed to animal welfare.
Our veterinary clinic in Bucharest will be a place where compassion, education and life-saving veterinary care come together.
And since we filmed this video, the transformation has continued at an incredible pace. The clinic has already moved forward significantly, and we are now preparing for our opening.

I never noticed it before, but it’s quite uncanny that in 2007 Putin gave his speech of defiance against the west in Munich, and one year later in 2008 the world faced a financial crisis.
I guess economic crises happen whenever you’re suddenly unable to loot others easily.
Russia spent the 1990s watching foreigners - Americans and Europeans - extract its wealth on their own terms - until Putin.
Under Yeltsin, Russia’s vast natural resources on Sakhalin were handed to foreign investors - literally, for pennies on the dollar. Production-sharing agreements gave foreign companies such as the American ExxonMobil or British Shell extraordinarily favorable terms: Russia received as little as 10 cents from every dollar of oil profits while investors enjoyed sweeping tax exemptions - even as ordinary people on the island froze in the cold.
Putin later called these deals “a colonial practice that had absolutely nothing to do with Russia’s interests,” and said the officials who signed them in the 1990s should have been jailed.
Immediately after taking power in 2000, Putin began dismantling the system. By 2004, 260 of 262 agreements had been terminated. The remaining projects were gradually returned to Russian control - Sakhalin-2 in 2006 and Sakhalin-1 in 2022.
Yet Western narratives still insist Yeltsin was the decolonizer.
