"Using First principles" has become a go to word used by almost everyone to project that they understand something from the basics but there are actually very few who actually have the mental model to trace anything down to the basic physics or the inherent logic.

After the 1950's or so, most base technologies were created which we use today. The Moore's law helped realize all the ideas envisioned back then & we kept building on them. For the last 50 yrs or so we have been creating abstract layers on top. (1)

Or we can use AI to see the whole journey (how anything was ever created) and use it to understand how anything ever evolved and use it as founding principles to envision something new and unique.

Most people don't realize that the gadgets we use today (except maybe phones) were ideated or created almost a century ago. We have only been adding bells and whistles and improving efficiency. Today with AI we have the opportunity to further abstract away (2)
