A timely post by Brian. Come to our Branch in Edinburgh on Sunday 11th October 2026 (2pm) to hear Tom Scotland RCSEd talk about the appalling mortality rates of wounded British soldiers in 1914 - and the incredible surgical advances made by British doctors in four years of war.
The First Wounded, London Hospital, August 1914, painted 1915 by Sir John Lavery, 1856-1941, Irish painter who became a war artist (Dundee Art Galleries and Museums).

A very special lady is celebrating her 80th birthday today. 80 years ago today, on 2 October 1946, the paddle steamer Waverley was launched at the A. & J. Inglis Pointhouse shipyard in Glasgow, where the River Kelvin meets the Clyde. 📷 Bob Dougans #Glasgow #history #waverley
