Did you know that more private jets took off from the UK than any other country in Europe in 2022? These jets emit massive amounts of carbon and are only available to the ultra-wealthy. Sign this petition to demand that the UK government bans private jets! act.gp/42YqCpZ

Here’s the thing folks. I’ve been coding 32 years. When something like this happens it’s an organizational failure. Yes, some human wrote a bad line. Someone can “git blame” and point to a human and it’s awful. But it’s the testing, the Cl/CD, the A/B testing, the metered rollouts, an oh shit button to roll it back, the code coverage, the static analysis tools, the code reviews, the organizational health, and on and on. It’s always one line of code but it’s NEVER one person. Implying inclusion policies caused a bug is simplistic, reductive, and racist. Engineering is a team sport. Inclusion makes for good teams. Good engineering practices makes for good software. Engineering practices failed to find a bug multiple times, regardless of the seniority of the human who checked that code in. Solving the larger system thinking SDLC matters more than the null pointer check. This isn’t a “git gud C++ is hard” issue and it damn well isn’t an DEI one.

When voting in 5 days, please remember that under the Tories: Don’t get old. Don’t get sick. Don’t get disabled. Don’t get unemployed. Don’t get zero hours contracted. Don’t get poor. Don’t get unlucky. Don’t get vulnerable. Don’t get ideas above your station.

In just one week, 7K of us have written to Ofwat to demand that they play their part to #endsewagepollution. 🙌 Now Ofwat has delayed announcing their draft judgements on water companies' plans until the 11th of July. But we are still watching them. 👀 pulse.ly/ie02nhwx5j

During the 1990s, as a refugee child, the BBC served as the only source of information about both my hometown and the world. I'm deeply grateful to @bbcwspartners for the special invitation. Meeting the one and only @bbclysedoucet was truly the highlight of it all. Thank you 🙏

What’s happening in Guatemala right now is unbelievable. The amount of plastic we captured… we’ve never seen anything like this before. We’ve been scooping day and night for over a week and we’re still not done extracting it all.

On August 12th 1949 Winston Churchill set out his vision of a “united Europe” that would stand against tyranny. Central to it, he said, was the declaration of human rights by the United Nations in Geneva. Two years later, Britain became the first country to ratify the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), which was based on that declaration and largely drafted by British lawyers. Reports the @TheEconomist But in order to safeguard the right of deporting asylum seekers to #Rwanda the government is considering withdrawing from a treaty designed to keep Europe safe from war.
