In the early days of GTA1 development, the driving just wasn’t fun.
Then Pat Kerr, who is handy with physics but wasn’t even on the team, dropped in some driving code that fixed it.
He’s now published a playable demo using those same ideas. It’s remarkable how much it feels like GTA1—especially the handbrake (space).

Grind on AWS spot instances with vanity-fleet, an orchestrator on top of @cavemanloverboy's vanity. Rents a GPU fleet, grinds, pulls the key over SSH, tears it all down.

vanity got a HUGE HUGE ed25519 upgrade!!! version v0.8.0 out now!
- On Apple M4 Max, vanity ed25519 grind does over 17M/s, up from 9M/s on prev release (use opencl feature!). This is OVER TEN TIMES FASTER than solana-keygen! (shoutout @deanmlittle for initial opencl implementation)
- On AMD EPYC 9275F (24-Core), vanity ed25519 grind does over 34M/s, up from like 10M/s on prev release (no feature flag needed, avx ifma auto detected). This is ALSO OVER TEN TIMES FASTER than solana-keygen!

‼️Two popular Rust crates, arrayref and append-only-vec, were compromised in a supply chain attack. arrayref alone has 244M downloads. The malware ran at build time, which means anyone who compiled a project that pulled one in was hit, without ever calling the crate.

Important update for validator operators.
Solana mainnet validators can now register a BLS pubkey, a prerequisite for Alpenglow.
This week, a second feature gate, the Validator Admission Ticket (SIMD-0357), goes live. Once VAT activates, validators without a BLS pubkey stop participating in consensus and stop receiving inflation rewards.

Solana Foundation just nuked the EdgeSol pool that @edgevana runs. Edgevana was running a great pool and it was GREAT for decentralization and provider diversity. RIP. As of epoch 1000, 349 validators out of 704 were not profitable, this is about to get much worse.
