Surprisingly much insight into pre-training a frontier LLM
We now have state-of-the-art pre-trained base models in the 3T-parameter weight class, built entirely in-house at MAI. Post-training results coming soon -- stay tuned! Lots of details in our technical blog post. microsoft.ai/news/frontier-p…

An OpenAI employee was arrested for allegedly planting a recording device inside a company conference room. OpenAI says it discovered the device, used its AI models to figure out where it came from, fired the employee, and referred the case to the FBI. The device was wrapped in toilet paper and concealed behind a TV in order to capture sensitive company conversations. The FBI says surveillance footage placed the fired employee near the conference room, which he was not authorized to access. OpenAI says there is no evidence that model weights or company source code were accessed or exfiltrated. The employee was identified as 35-year-old Saudi national Abdulrahman Alfozan. It sounds like this is the next checkmark on AI 2027's bucket list @DKokotajlo

Great team!
We’re on a mission to build a billion AI models, not trained by us, but by you. Introducing @bryel_labs we help your company build its in-house AI lab and give you the software to make model development and continual improvement simpler. We are backed by @ycombinator and have trained models at Apple, Framer, and F500s. We’ve enabled companies to train: • Classification models that are 20x faster • Search models that cost 5x less. • Long horizon agent models that match the frontier at 5-8x lower cost. Are you interested in partnering with us? Reach out. bryel.ai/

Super exciting work enabling a whole lot of new post-training ideas for small budgets :)
SFT is not dead! 🥳 We found a way to make SFT rival current prevailing posttraining methods, often generalizing better and forgetting less than RL and OPSD. 🤯 Following our prior work on reasoning with sampling, we now introduce sampling to the posttraining stack. 1/n

SWE-sweep gives coding agents a repo and asks them to discover and fix bugs without location hints. Best listed result: 4.7% resolved with mini-SWE-agent. I like this eval swesweep.com/

For a while, I used my old macbook with codex remote as kind of as a coworker/chief of staff/engineer. Felt better than having openclaw/hermes run on that machine. Now, I can give my dot access to that laptop and it runs it's own codex threads on that machine. Next nice step in this evolution.

My bike got stolen in SF. 3rd stolen bike for me. But for the first time ever, I have hope, because Codex has a recurring task set up to search the web every day at 2pm PT. You may steal my bike but you have to deal with my agent.

I’m starting a small monthly "Pizza & Growth" event series in San Francisco for founders and growth leaders. For the first one on Thursday, August 13, we'll compare notes on what’s working in customer acquisition, share current growth strategies, and make useful introductions to our networks. And there will be Pizza too. Hosted at the Sonia Health office in downtown SF. Join us :) luma.com/ydhszfog

Reviews like this are why we built @Sonia_Health: "I have been seeking something like this since I got on the internet in the late 90s. ... I am forever indebted to the dev team for allowing for financial assistance... The fact that the app is HIPPA compliant is also such peace of mind."

When we built Sonia, we kept asking: Who gets left out if cost is the barrier? That's why we launched the financial assistance program from day one. If cost has ever kept you from getting mental health support, this is for you. Apply in the app: tinyurl.com/soniadownload

The mental health system in the US is broken by design. Because the format doesn't match when and how people actually need support. #mentalhealth #healthcareinnovation #digitalhealth #AIinHealthcare #behavioralhealth

Hosting the first Hemingway Mornings for the new SF chapter next Tuesday, June 30. 8 Hemingway members, one breakfast table, no panels, no pitching. Just a useful conversation around what people are actually wrestling with in mental health. SF members can RSVP here: luma.com/hemingway-nc1a

We’ve built a HIPAA-compliant, AI mental health and life coach, available on iOS. We’re offering 3 months of free support to all fellow YC companies to give your team 24/7 access to support. Our team has been dogfooding our own product for the past 4 months and it literally improved our relationships, communication and execution speed (less drama, more focus). Just reply “yes” or dm me and I’ll send over a custom code that gives all of your team members free access for 3 months.

I made a local MCP server for Apple Contacts. It lets Codex, Claude, or any MCP-capable agent search and update macOS Contacts, append dated interaction notes. While you might switch your agents, apps and knowledge bases, the most important interactions need a place to persist. github.com/lu-wo/apple-conta…

Very excited about this
After seven years of depression and trying everything possible, I realized there is NO MAGIC PILL. I could not find a single podcast that talked honestly about what it actually feels like to struggle. So I built it. No Magic Pill launches on 5/5, with Matthew McConaughey and Michael Pollan as my first two guests, and if you are stuck, anxious, or just trying to feel better, this one is for you. Link in bio to subscribe.
