I’m deeply saddened to hear of Officer Camacho’s passing and I want to extend my condolences to his family, loved ones and colleagues. We are extremely grateful for the men and women who keep Queen’s Park safe every day, and my thoughts are with everyone at the Legislative Protective Service at this difficult time.
It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of Joshua Camacho, a beloved member of our Legislative Assembly family.
Joshua worked as a Peace Officer at Queens Park for 3 years and was known for his professionalism and commitment to service.
Joshua passed away tragically in a motor vehicle accident early this morning.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones. He will be deeply missed.

Today, our members were proud to stand alongside our law enforcement partners from across Canada at the 49th Annual Canadian Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
Together, we honoured the women and men who lost their lives while serving their communities. Their courage and sacrifice will always be remembered, as will the families, friends and colleagues who carry their memory forward.
We shall not forget them.

On National Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, the TPA stood proudly alongside our members and other services to honour those we have lost in the line of duty.
Among them was Toronto Police Constable Marc Pinizzotto, whose tragic murder earlier this year remains at the forefront of our minds.
Every name, every badge, and every story remembered today reminds us of the risks police officers face each day. They also reflect the extraordinary bravery, commitment, and selflessness demonstrated by those who dedicate their lives to serving others across Canada.
It is our honour to carry their legacies forward.

As officers from across the country ride and run toward Ottawa as part of the Canadian Police Memorial Ride to Remember, they carry with them the memory of colleagues who lost their lives in service to others.
The ride and run brings police services and communities together in advance of the national memorial service, reflecting the deep respect our profession holds for those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Their service, courage, and commitment continue to leave a lasting mark on policing in Canada.

The last Sunday in September annually is Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day in Canada. The flags at OPPA Head Office in Barrie are flying at half staff today in honour of the service and sacrifice of our fallen officers.
This year has been an especially difficult year for the police and peace officer community with five police officers and three peace officers who have died in the line of duty.
On September 27th there will be the names of five police officers and one peace officer from across Canada honoured, and added to the tablets at the rear of Parliament Hill.
Two of the police officers who died this year will be added to the tablets next year. Of the six, two are our OPPA members, who both died in the line of duty in 2026 - Sergeant Brandon Malcolm and Provincial Constable Tarun Bali. The families, friends and colleagues of Brandon and Tarun are forever in our thoughts.
This brings the total number of police and peace officers who have died in the line of duty in Canada, and honoured on the tablets, to 918.
The OPPA Board of Directors will join the families, friends and colleagues of Brandon and Tarun, along with our members from across the province on Parliament Hill in Ottawa at the Canadian Police and Peace Officers' Memorial today for a ceremony at 11am.
The ceremony will be livestreamed starting at 10:30 a.m. ET. The Reading of the Names on the Honour Roll will occur and be livestreamed at 9:00 a.m. ET from the steps of the Police Memorial Pavilion at the rear of Parliament Hill beside the tablets overlooking the Ottawa River.
