The amount of people donating in the United States has consistently been on the decline for the past several decades. Paradoxically, the amount of money being contributed is increasing. This means that philanthropy is dwindling down to a few wealthy donors. This is sad. I argue that it’s in our nature to give to causes we believe in. Giving makes people happy. Not being able to give deprives one from that happiness. Today there lacks an incentive for the regular person to donate. They do only so from the goodness inside them. However, wealthy donors have the incentive in terms of receiving a sizable tax write off. This is part of the reason why we see the paradoxical relationship between number of donors versus the total amount donated. The system is broken and we need a new one. With smart contracts and blockchain technologies we can build new types of philanthropic rails. The Olive Branch Network has built a staking protocol that allows users to stake OBN to nonprofit organizations. As they earn yield - a portion is routed to the nonprofit organization. This creates a philanthropic system never before witnessed: (1) Giving becomes non-sacrificial. (2) Giving becomes financially incentivized.
