With the baseball season coming to a close, I wanted to share a side project I've been tinkering on for the last few weeks, just for fun: Pocket Ballpark ⚾

10 years ago I wouldn't shut up about how important distributed GPU infrastructure would become. 7 years ago, I joined Crusoe as their third engineer. A year ago, I co-founded @AranyaInc. Today we operate $500M+ of compute, and we've raised $11M to date to go much further. $9M seed led by @firstround, $2M pre-seed led by @asylumventures. Blog post link: aranya.tech/blog/the-missing…

How early are we talking? It totally depends on the scope of the CoS. We are series A (~18 people) and our CoS adds a ton of value. His scope requires judgment and proactiveness, and is far beyond what our co-founders could accomplish alone with AI

Capitalist discovers socialism via first principles
I changed my mind on minimum wage after reviewing the data. I used to believe in letting the free market handle it, like most of you. However, when California raised the minimum wage for fast-food workers, it increased prices for consumers by pennies (~1-2%). There was zero downside... it didn't drive massive automation, nor did it cause businesses to shutter. Exactly the same result as Australia and other American cities... no changes in jobs; restaurants didn't close. We are at record profits for corporations. We are at a record low in unemployment in America over the past five years. We are at maximum social unrest due to wealth disparity. We should WANT to see the lowest-earning Americans go from $12 to $15, to $20, and then to $25 an hour over the next decade. This isn't virtue signaling; this is good business! Why? Individuals earning under $40,000 a year spend 100% of their income. They save nothing... they just spend it at the same companies they earn it at (Amazon, McDonald's, the Apple Store, DoorDash, Uber, etc). It increases monetary velocity. Take the time to research all of this, and you'll find the only downside is for teenage workers, who aren't worth $15-20 an hour. It does depress those jobs, so we should keep teenagers at a lower rate.

Today marks the European launch of PRIMA, the first and only treatment to be commercially available that restores functional central vision to patients with geographic atrophy caused by dry age-related macular degeneration, a leading cause of blindness. The first European commercial implant of PRIMA is expected soon.

For 45 years, Berkeley built virtually no new housing. By the mid-2010s, it was the most expensive college town in America. Shortly thereafter, YIMBYs took over and kicked off a building boom. Today, nominal rents are below 2018 rates—remarkable progress on affordability.
