Ok so I enjoy this joke a lot too, but the actual history behind this is a bit more complicated and honestly illuminating in its wackiness.
Let's talk about Roman calendars!
So why do the 'number months' (Sept-Dec) not correspond to their numbers (7-10)? 1/

One of the things in visual representations of the past, especially a 'fantastic' past (e.g. fantasy medieval Europe) is the tendency to skip over the period when mail was the dominant heavy armor, from roughly the second century BC to the 13th century AD.
So let's talk mail. 1/

Ten years ago I stopped posting to this account because I was ready to move beyond Twitter. I think we've built something unique over at Micro.blog. An open platform based on blogs, community principles, that peers with Mastodon too. Made by people who love the web.

I don’t know who needs to hear this (yes I do) but abandoning this platform and not signing up for any further “social” media platforms ever again in your entire life is also an option.

Let’s say this was a newspaper vs Twitter. Someone buys the paper and says there are gonna be big changes in what we publish and we are not clear what those changes are going to be and when..
You still gonna run ads while it is happening or wait for it to be done?
Twitter has had a massive drop in revenue, due to activist groups pressuring advertisers, even though nothing has changed with content moderation and we did everything we could to appease the activists.
Extremely messed up! They’re trying to destroy free speech in America.

Multiple advertisers have confirmed they are pausing spending while they see what direction Elon Musk takes with the platform.
"The growing exodus of advertisers comes amid concerns Musk will scale back misinformation and security protections on the platform."

I've worked a lot with AI-generated text. My advice is to assign:
1. The quirky. AI's sweet spot is the bland/generic.
2. The topical. The training data of most text generators is months/years old.
3. The specific. AI doesn't know your town, or what was on page 12.
The essays that students turn in are about to get a lot better 😬
I just tried Moonbeam (app.gomoonbeam.com) and it produced an outline & credible undergraduate essay with just the prompt “Legitimation and startups.” And that is without human intervention, which would help

💯 A professional cook doesn't ask for permission to clean their tools, before moving on to the next dish.
Refactoring is the same.
We should not ask permission to do a professional job!!

I once had 2 students, both 9th grade, rated 900 & 1900. The 900 played anyone, anywhere. The 1900 wanted to protect his rating & careful not to play sections where he might lose lots of rating pts. 3 yrs later the 1900 was rated 1900 & the 900 was rated 2000 #Chess #chesspunks

That’s why, starting today, we're making all of our stories free to read online. 🧵 bit.ly/3e7QQSn

Ok, so I got a chance to try out Safety Check. This is a new iOS 16 feature designed to quickly secure your phone against unwanted data sharing. It automates the old checklists I wrote (complained about) a while back.

Having great tests and release practices can never tell you that your software is 100% without issues.
But it can definitely tell you when it's busted.
Don't confuse the two.

Goals
The aim is to falsify not prove. However many tests we have, we can’t prove our change is good, but a single test failure “proves our SW is not good enough”.
