You notice anything?
Look at what separates the two groups.
It isn't technology.
It isn't complexity.
It's one variable: how much the state is involved.
At the top, sectors that are subsidized, regulated, shielded from competition, where the state funds demand and blocks supply.
At the bottom, sectors where companies fight every single morning to serve you better and cheaper.
This guy is gonna get old quick if they don’t start winning here
Jim Hiller asked about his team's sense of urgency to win the next one after dropping three in a row.
"Yeah, I mean, it's a long season, so I try not to get into that. I have a sense of urgency every game. You know what I mean. And if we had won three in a row, you could ask me the same question and say, "What's the sense of urgency to win four?" And I would say it's the exact same thing it is for Monday. And that's just the way I look at it."
You gotta just straight up love this kid, you gotta.
Gavin McKenna on Hiller: "We have a good relationship ... He said it had nothing to do with my play which is obviously nice to know. It doesn’t really take away from your confidence ... I trust him. I trust the team ... I’m willing to play whatever role this team wants"
@BarDown
4-6 high ankle sprain. Big opportunity for Nick Paul and McKenna on the PP.
🚨 BREAKING: The Maple Leafs have announced that F John Tavares, who left Thursday’s game with a lower-body injury, is OUT week to week
Tavares has recorded 2 goals and 5 assists for 7 points in 7 games to start the season, including 2 assists against Buffalo on Thursday before exiting with the injury
Tough one 💔

I’ll admit, I’ve only been able to watch parts of the last few games because I’m in Europe right now. But the Leafs fans overreactions are hilarious right now. The team is far improved from last year, everyone should be feeling decent. Not a contending team, but not THAT far away anymore.
I’m a leafs pessimist. But I like the fact that they’ve been in every game they’ve played this season. That’s far more than we can say about last year where it was almost the opposite.
This is a playoff team IMO. Gonna be a fun year
This quoted post is unavailable.
Stopped before the end of the quote though where he said “you never take it for granted, because you never know when your last game is going to be”
Matthews knows that he will be the one to decide when he’s done being a Toronto Maple Leaf, so that quote is one to ponder IMO
Jonas Siegel of The Athletic recently conducted a one-on-one with Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews.
It was... interesting.

He cleared waivers a few days ago. Therefore, this trade was primarily about shedding 2 contracts for one (since Leafs were at 50/50)
Weird to move Buhr who they just signed out of college in March
🚨 BREAKING: The Maple Leafs have officially acquired forward Aatu Räty from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for forwards Brandon Buhr and Jacob Quillan
Räty, 23, was originally selected 52nd overall by the New York Islanders in the 2021 NHL Draft before being traded to Vancouver in the Bo Horvat deal
The 6-foot-2 Finnish centre has recorded 27 points in 118 career NHL games and posted 40 points in 43 AHL games in 2024-25, helping Abbotsford win the Calder Cup
Thoughts on this deal? 👀🤔

It’s hesitation to lock it in. McKenna has gotten a few shifts with him each game, easing the kid in and keeping him from feeling like he’s failing and being demoted. I really like how Hiller has managed him so far
Exactly how I felt the whole time 🤣
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau didn't see Justin Trudeau as a PM: 'I knew it was his job, but come on' nationalpost.com/news/canada…
I’ve compiled 3 forward lines, 2 D pairings and 2 goalies of players either drafted with Leaf picks, or drafted by the Leafs and traded away as prospects. This is a sick team:
Verhage-Seguin-Jarvis
Marchment-Kadri-Rakell
Saad-Minten-Steen
Niedermayer-Hamilton
Josi-Stralman
Rask
Gibson
You don’t want to know what they got in return for all these guys combined over the years 😂
Crazy but honestly don’t hate this idea
Rielly would make a good winger. He likes to play in the O-zone, he can pass, he can carry the puck, he’s creative offensively. Put him on a wing. That $7.5 could end up looking like a good deal! If they could do it to Wendel, why not Rielly? #Leafs #passionneversleeps
Lots of talk about he Carlo, Rask & Kessel trades all being terrible for the Leafs.
But there’s a fourth Leafs/Bruins trade that ended up terrible for Toronto…
In 2011 the Leafs deal Kaberle to Boston for a 1st (2011) and a 2nd (2012)
They ended up trading the 1st and their own 2nd to trade up and draft Tyler Biggs. 1st ended up being Rickard Rakell, 2nd ended up being John Gibson. Leafs then took Matt Finn in 2012 with the Bruins 2nd 😂
Don’t think many people had a problem trading Carlo, it was more trading FOR Carlo that sucks
On regrets around trading Brandon Carlo…
Brandon Carlo was never as good as expected when the Leafs acquired him, nor as bad as portrayed when they traded him.
He was far more physical in Boston. His lack of physicality in Toronto - particularly for a 6’5, 215lb defenceman, and particularly when his goalie was annihilated by opposing forwards right next to him - was extremely disappointing.
Given his age and the salary retained by Boston on his deal, I really thought his value would hold and Toronto could ‘rent’ him for a couple years and get a solid return for him down the line if they wanted to move him. Wrong. He depreciated and the market changed. Big net loss.
He was traded to St. Louis in June. T’was a different time back then. Coming off a 28th place finish, Toronto was focused on turning over what didn’t work, freeing cap space, and restocking their bare cupboards.
To Toronto’s credit, the work they did in the offseason completely changed the sentiment around the team. They’re further ahead on revamping the roster than I could have ever anticipated by October. McKenna helps. They have a chance to be competitive and there’s urgency to acquire defence now. That’s a good thing.
As desperate as Toronto is for help on the backend, I saw nothing last season to convince me the sentiments around Toronto’s defence would be any different right now if Brandon Carlo were still a Leaf.
No regrets - preference was and is to cut our losses and move on.

Canada's Mass Immigration (2017 to 2025) was the worst economic policy decision in Canadian history.
It was NOT progressive; it was, in fact, extremely REGRESSIVE.
It transferred wealth and market power:
➡️from the Young to the Old,
➡️from the Poor to the Rich,
➡️from Labour to Corporations, and
➡️from the Renter Class to the Owner Class.
Prior to 2015, immigration to Canada was high and focused on high-skilled, high-wage labour.
In 2015, THIS government CHANGED the RULES, which shifted the focus to low-skilled, low-wage labour. This hurt the job prospects of young Canadians entering the labour market, put downward pressure on wages and lowered Canada's productivity. ➡️bankofcanada.ca/2025/05/staf…)
It also increased housing costs, particularly for renters, who tend to be poorer and younger. ➡️bankofcanada.ca/publications…
In short, it was horrific for the youngest, poorest and most vulnerable in our society. Never mind the social upheaval it caused.
Now that Job Vacancies have normalized and rents are falling, this government is floating the idea of raising immigration. It is outrageous. Worse, it is, again, being pitched as progressive when it is not. It hurts the Working Class; Bernie Sanders was right...youtu.be/vf-k6qOfXz0
The only thing that will improve the standard of living for working-class people is productivity growth. That's it.
Brutal. Minten trade has potential to be the all time worst trade the Leafs have ever made. And that is saying something
That is insane
