New: At least $260 billion of data center projects facing local opposition have been canceled this year, according to new Heatmap Pro data.
That’s a far higher figure than previously thought. Pace is picking up: Half of those cancellations came in Q3.

Today marks the day when gas has been above $4 a gallon for a total of 159 days since Trump returned to office.
Gas was over $4 a gallon for 158 days of Biden's presidency.
Days of diesel over $6 a gallon? Biden: 0 days. Trump: 27 days.
The gap will keep growing because gas prices won't drop below $4 tomorrow, the next day, or the day after that.
Gas prices were high for a period of time under Biden because of global high inflation due to the pandemic recovery and war criminal Putin invading Ukraine.
Gas prices are high under Trump because he foolishly started a pointless war in Iran that he can't find his way back out of. No, Iran was not working on a nuclear weapon.
Saying "what about gas prices under Biden" just sounds foolish.
Prices are from the AAA national average.

to all the geothermal believers out there, the flippening has come
in NV Energy’s 2026 filing, 3 geothermal offers came in at $105–107/MWh, below the ~$114/MWh capacity-weighted average for 11 solar + bess offers
in Nevada, of all the sunny places
the 3 solar + bess projects NV Energy put forward in 2024 averaged ~$94/MWh, but this 2026 slate is pricier, e.g., Boulder Solar III’s levelized price jumped from ~$85/MWh to ~$125/MWh after permitting delays, land carrying costs, higher financing costs, and, of course, big, bad tariffs.
could geothermal pull off a solar + wind circa 2010 move and scale faster to come down the cost curve? it now has a much longer tax-credit runway than new solar + wind projects (oh how the tables have turned), plus firm output and higher energy density (all true for nuclear too)
and for the 24/7 solar crowd: the ~$114/MWh average covers solar paired mostly with 4-hour batteries, and we all know 12+ hours of storage would cost more and still wouldn’t cover multi-day gaps
it might be time for more geothermal, people

Okay thank you, @JaneAFlegal. Let's talk BAAJA & geothermal. If you want clean, affordable, baseload power and you want it fast, enhanced geothermal is your technology. If you want to unlock the Geothermal Decade even faster, BAAJA is your bill. 🧵

New England is a great example of why energy regulation via permitting-friction is structurally bad for clean energy:
- Fossil fuels can be transported several ways, making them flexible — if a pipeline gets blocked fossil can move on ships or trains.
- Clean electricity HAS to move on transmission lines that connect generation in specific locations to market.
- Permitting and other frictional costs are bad for building all complex infrastructure, BUT that's much worse for clean energy than for fossil.
Case in point: New England
- Over the last 10 years several pipelines to bring natural gas into New England were blocked.
- At the same time major transmission projects to bring hydro power from Canada to New England was also blocked/delayed.
- What happened when both pipelines and transmission lines were constrained? We just shipped more expensive natural gas to New England on tankers because fossil is more flexible under frictional costs
- Ironically New England often ends up using dirtier foreign LNG because of the Jones Act

Blocking gas infrastructure in New England hasn’t caused renewables to magically sprout, it just means that electricity is expensive to “electrify everything” is unattractive.
We need a better strategy.

.@ezraklein: “What is, to you, the ‘rage economy’?”
@JamesTalarico: “The billionaires own the algorithms and the news networks. They have created for-profit platforms that divide us on an hourly basis — by party, by race, by gender, by religion. They elevate the most extreme voices very strategically to provoke our outrage, because that leads to more clicks, which leads to more money for them.
They are selling us conflict right into our bloodstream, and they’re calling it connection.
And I think it’s left people starving for actual community.”

In "The Age of Power", we argue that the electrotech and digital revolutions are deeply intertwined: renewables have made electrons cheap, digitalisation and AI have made them smart, and batteries have made them mobile.

Notice the absence of the traditional olive branch? The olive branch symbolized America prioritizing peace with war as a last resort. It has been part of the Great Seal of the United States since 1782 and was part of the original seal of the Department of Defense.

...Now guess what would help supercharge US advanced geothermal buildout? Permitting reform.
This example is also a reminder that US clean energy deployment can spill over to the rest of the world, multiplying emissions benefits.

"America is deploying as much as the rest of the world combined"
If there is one clean energy tech where this could become true within years, it's geothermal. The U.S. has now 1.66GW of geothermal (61% next-generation projects) with signed PPAs between 2021 and EOY2025.
For comparison, the entire world commissioned 320MW of new geothermal in 2024, and just 200MW in 2025.
Progress in clean geothermal power could begin scaling rapidly as more projects start proving themselves commercially, led by the US. Geothermal could become an American gift to the global energy transition... (1/2)

Another cool thing in BAAJA: Project sponsors can use agency officials' own statements against them in litigation.
When the admin blocked offshore wind they TOLD us they were doing it statements and TV appearances. But courts couldn't use that as evidence. BAAJA fixes this

The Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act of 2026 (BAAJA) could deliver major wins for America’s energy future.
According to a new fact sheet from ACP’s Research team, the legislation would help move forward 100+ GW of clean energy projects currently stalled in the pipeline and enable more than 200 GW of additional clean energy through transmission expansion.
Passing BAAJA is critical to building a more resilient grid, lowering consumer costs, creating good-paying jobs, and delivering more reliable, affordable power for Americans. Learn more here: cleanpower.org/resources/unl….

seriously, take a second and just imagine: if a Democrat ever said anything like this it would end their presidency overnight.
they would be forced to resign. the media wouldn’t stop talking about it.
