Coincidentally today, I ate more jam in four hours than I normally eat in a month, swam in the rain in a remote lake and the car sailed through the MOT. Difficult not to believe in a benevolent creator in these circumstances google.com/search?gs_ssp=eJz…

Every year when the new series of 'Ask the Family' started, my father would take me to one side and say 'We would win every year if I had married someone else, not your mother.' She seemed to find this very funny
Class consciousness was the realisation that you didn't know any adults or children like the ones on Ask the Family.

Does anyone out there know anything about the cult of St Wilgefortis in Wales and the Marches in the late 5th-early 16th Centuries? I know she's not a 'real' saint of course. Any suggestions or info about a Welsh version of the name 'Uncumber' gratefully received.

Is there a word which, when read in a review or on the back of a book, makes you drop it as if it were on fire? My word is 'urgent.' I like considered books, thank you very much: social media is the place for your hot takes.

Yesterday, my fizzy water machine broke and I mended it. Woke up this morning with an unquenchable sense of techno hubris so will probably bid to buy Jodrell Bank later, to make it the base for my mission to Saturn.

It rained a bit here but I still went swimming. Not sure why swimming in the rain is not more popular because when you swim, you get wet anyway.

Promise this is not Papist snark (well, not entirely) but why if the C of E is considering reparations, can we not raise the crimes of the Reformation? Personally, I would settle for York Minster, the return of reroofed Fountains and Strata Florida & a few scenic churches but...

I am not a political person but as homelessness is now high on the political agenda, may I make one simple suggestion? It should be routine to exclude domestic abusers from the family home, not expect the victim and children to flee. Private law can protect homes with injunctions

Further to writers discussing the inner life of farmers. They worry about their children's GCSE results, the price of red deisel, getting care for Taid and why their wife looks like that at Glyn Tanfron, not about 'seeping back into the primeval soil from which they sprang.'

Contemporary writers not rooted in rural communities; if you set your story in the countryside, please do not assure that it's 1950 where there are no street lights. Recently read a story set in modern N Wales where a farmer offers visitors 'mutton broth.' Fajitas far more likely

Am I becoming a pedant? Twice this morning I have experienced serious stabs of annoyance, once on 'learning', in a history book, that Eliz was Henry 8th youngest child, then 'discovering' churching of women was a sacrament. Do I expect too much, do you think ? Better is possible

Look chaps, I know the weather is hot and it is siesta time, but I urgently need to know the names of the final four abbots of Dore Abbey in Herefordshire. Some of you chaps must have Marcher Cistercian data at your fingertips. Also did I lend you my copy of Cistercians in Wales?

Of your charity, please scale this emergency down from Level 5 to Level 3. Welsh Cistercian book was, of course, on the shelf of 'Things Tolkein would read first if visiting.'

Felt a real pang on seeing this picture as my ancestor, Alexander the Wolf of Badenoch burnt the Cathedral down. Twice. Sorry, Elgin.
The perfect cottage for anyone who's ever fancied a medieval ruin in their back garden! King Street, Elgin, with the west towers of the Cathedral behind. The house is now the local office of Historic Environment Scotland. I don't think it gets much light in the mornings...

Society is at a tipping point. Whatapp will now allow you to send 'history' to new members of the group, meaning that fatuous drivel being exchanged before you joined the group will now pursue you, probably to the grave and beyond

That Starmer should resign on the Feasts of St Thomas More and John Fisher, for whom principle was more important than power, seems glumly resonant. We need men who stand by their beliefs, at cost to themselves. Not mad zealots but people who know what is right.

Correcting the proof outdoors before 8am this morning. It's quite a chunky one, not unlike the author. @CarregGwalch @LlyfrauCymru
