We didn’t become doctors to heal people.
We didn’t become doctors to have a fulfilling career.
We didn’t become doctors to make the world a better place.
We became doctors to tell our spouses “that’s not how it happens in real life” when watching medical shows.

“One day our society will come to respect the sanitation worker if it is to survive, for the person who picks up our garbage, in the final analysis, is as significant as the physician, for if he doesn’t do his job, diseases are rampant. All labor has dignity.” —MLK jr

Hi Internet! I'm Drew and THIS IS MY FACE.
If this GIF has ever brought you joy in the past, I humbly ask you to consider making a donation to the National MS Society. It would mean a lot to me and to those I know affected by the disease!

This is important: students rely heavily on Qbanks. Patient portrayal is part of the hidden curriculum, shapes heuristics & unrealistic representation may predispose ppl to overlooking important aspects of caring for ppl who are homeless (e.g.: CV disease & cancer screenings).
My latest work in @JournalGIM: In 2 major USMLE Step 1 & 2 Qbanks, vignettes involving patients experiencing homelessness overrepresented HIV, TB, & substance use, underrepresented top causes of death like CV disease & cancer, and often used stigmatizing language. #MedEd #Stigma

It costs taxpayers $89,425 to incarcerate one person at Trump’s “Alligator Alcatraz” per year.
That’s more than what 95% of Americans spend on housing and food.
Republican priorities: Waste tax dollars torturing immigrants, while cutting support for working class families.
