This. Often as adults, we are more uncomfortable seeing children struggle than they are with struggling. Give kids the chance to experience the joy of figuring it out themselves!
A few heuristics: 1. If the child is focused and engaged and not asking for help, never help, even if they seem moderately frustrated. 2. Think about how to help indirectly, by setting up the situation differently and in a way more suited to the child.

Only about the top 1/3 of US school kids are meeting school standards. An average kid is "behind".

I have heard so many horror stories about special ed programs from homeschooling families. Disabled kids deserve the same social and academic opportunities as everyone else.

And none of this is new- this is an article for an e-learning program developed in the 70s, and the student they profiled refused to continue to attend school because she was bullied so terribly.

Somehow, I just put together that the computer I would play games on at my Dad's office 45 years ago was a remote learning system! It used a touchtone telephone for input and cable tv for output- in the early 70s! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TICCIT

Having fun with adult-ish kids: my husband is currently assembling his annual Easter morning puzzle/scavenger hunt for our kids. He started the year Easter was on 4/1, and now they spend the morning working through puzzles together while we laugh :)

Completely frustrated with @fedex today. My insured package is weeks late and has now allegedly been sent to Fargo (4 hours from my home) when it was theoretically in St. Paul (40 minutes from my home) on Sunday. I think I get why the insurance was so cheap-- they never pay

As an ex 4h mom, I keep thinking about this article. Raising meat animals is tough on kids- for future farmers, it's worth it, but kids have to balk at harvesting their 4h animals often enough for there to be a policy, and this cannot be it. latimes.com/california/story…

The way our society deprives children of sleep is so confusing. One of the hidden advantages of homeschooling is that leaves time for kids get enough rest.
Nearly a third of our life is spent sleeping, and there’s a reason for that: We need it to survive. Yet our society is not well set up for us or our children to get the sleep they need. @GreaterGoodSC greatergood.berkeley.edu/art…

FYI "You're starting to sound like a Facebook post with minions in it" is a sick burn. Courtesy of my oldest (yes, they said that to me- I don't know who's paying for the rest of their college, though).

I have 3 kids ages 21, 19 & 16 - none of them have been to school. This leads to occasional weird blindspots. The latest we found is that they have no experience walking in a line, not to mention having opinions about where they want to be (line leader, anonymous middle, last?)

Excited to see Everything Everywhere All at Once getting the recognition it deserves at the Oscars (still waiting on Best Picture). Hoping we get more touching, philosophical, action sci-fi movies starring middle aged women!

I love having a zoom pop-up letting me know I don't have an internet connection every 20 seconds while I am trying to set up an internet connection. It's like having a whiny toddler trapped in my computer. Would it kill them to have a "don't tell me again" box?

I'm at SXSW.edu this week, and I am so impressed-- meeting lots of great people who are so open and welcoming. If you're here, ping me so we can meet up. :)

A shift in framing for me: anxiety is a normal, natural response to pushing out of my comfort zone, like having achy muscles after a workout.

How my daughter hurt me at dinner last night: I'm playing a game where you dial into a BBS-- were those real? (The game is called Last Call, and it sounds fun, even for people who are a million years old like me).
