The "spheres of influence" poison that led to two world wars & that post-WWII international law was intended to avoid. (Despite disgracefully allowing Soviet occupation of E Europe.) Attractive to authoritarians like Xi and Putin, but the US is supposed to be on the other side.

🆘 Europe tries to reduce its dependence on @elonmusk SpaceX and Washington threatens retaliation. The EU is considering reserving part of the satellite spectrum used to connect phones directly to satellites for European operators. 👏Governments have finally realised that relying on foreign companies for critical communications infrastructure is a security risk. Starlink has demonstrated its enormous value in Ukraine but also the danger of becoming dependent on a privately controlled American network. So Europe is trying to build greater technological sovereignty. 🔥 And what does Washington say? US ambassador Andrew Puzder warns European companies that retaliation could be “devastating” if Brussels disadvantages American firms. That is extraordinary language between supposed allies. And it rather proves Europe’s point. If access to critical technology can become leverage in a political dispute, then reducing dependency is not protectionism for its own sake. It is resilience. The US ambassador says Europe should work with America against China rather than restrict American companies. But Europe’s problem is increasingly obvious: what happens when America itself becomes the unpredictable partner? This is why Europe is right to build its own satellite network, strengthening cloud sovereignty and trying to develop its own AI and industrial capacity. And it is also why Britain needs to think very carefully about where it sits. Because the world is rapidly dividing into large strategic blocs with control over technology, energy, defence and communications. Being dependent is not the same thing as being allied.

The White House has the audacity to threaten Europe for daring to reduce our dependence on the White House and SpaceX for our own security. They have blood on their hands and should be ashamed of themselves.
European companies face “devastating” retaliation from Washington if Brussels presses ahead with plans to restrict American rivals such as Elon Musk’s SpaceX from parts of the European market, the US ambassador to the EU warned in an interview with @FT’s @BMoens and @HenryJFoy.

🇺🇸🛰️🇪🇺 Elon Musk, Monopoly, and Political Power. Does History Ring a Bell? In 1911, the U.S. Supreme Court ordered John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil monopoly broken up under antitrust laws. America recognized that allowing one businessman to accumulate enormous control over an essential industry was dangerous. Now, more than a century later, look at Elon Musk, SpaceX, Starlink, xAI, and Tesla. (Soon, he wants to merge some of these to create a global, technocratic monstrosity.) We’re watching one billionaire accumulate extraordinary control over satellite communications, technology that governments, militaries, businesses, and entire countries increasingly depend on. And now, according to the Financial Times, the U.S. ambassador to the EU is threatening “devastating” retaliation if Europe restricts SpaceX from parts of its market. What the hell? Since when is the United States government supposed to act as the enforcement arm of a billionaire’s business empire? This is not just about market dominance anymore. It’s about economic power turning into political influence, and potentially using government power to protect private business interests. Rockefeller had Standard Oil. Musk has Starlink, SpaceX, xAI, etc. Different centuries, different technologies, but some disturbingly familiar patterns. This is supposed to be democracy, not a damn technocracy run by billionaires. I am all for free markets and capitalism with social democratic guardrails, just like in this case (don’t confuse that with pathetic kumbaya democratic socialism, which will most likely lead to damn socialism, and communism is next), but I am also against monopolies, political influence, and intimidation in business. Enough is enough, FFS!

The speed at which Musk suicided Starlink is incredible, all to save Trump who in turn aims to save Putin.
🇵🇱 NEW: Poland is preparing to develop its own alternative to Elon Musk’s Starlink, potentially in cooperation with other European countries. Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk revealed today that: • Initial offers have already been received. • Funding has been secured, according to the minister. • The proposed technical architecture is being planned. • A formal project announcement could come within the next few months. The system would initially serve Poland’s military, followed by security services, government institutions and potentially the wider European market. The announcement comes amid controversy over restrictions on Starlink and Starshield services used by Ukraine. Tomczyk argued that Poland cannot remain dependent on a single individual controlling critical communications infrastructure. Importantly, the project remains in the planning stage. No operational satellite network or final contract has been announced.

Rest in peace, Margaret Hamilton (1936–2026). Humanity walked on the Moon because extraordinary minds like hers made the impossible possible. In an era when women were routinely erased from history's achievements and forced to the sidelines by male scientists, she led the team that developed Apollo’s flight software, saved humanity’s first Moon landing, and revolutionised software engineering. The world has lost a scientist, pioneer, and one of the best of us. Humanity will carry her legacy to the stars and beyond. theguardian.com/science/2026…

Musk made his bed. You can’t trust him with Starlink. Even Delta Airlines recognizes that. God knows what he’ll do next. Because people dying in masses doesn’t seem to phase him.
Delta Air Lines has chosen not to go with Starlink, and Elon Musk is upset. Musk said that Delta’s CEO would “lose his job” for snubbing Starlink. Elon Musk quietly becomes biggest known donor in midterm contests as he tries to save Republicans. nytimes.com/2026/10/09/busin…

🇷🇺🇫🇮 RED LINE ENFORCEMENT - VIA SPACE WAR?! Russia was attacked with deep strikes, that are impossible without western satellite data. This was a red line for Putin. -> The only proper way to restore the red line, is to enforce it so it not broken anymore. But how to do it without starting a war with NATO? Blowing up a commercial satellite in space certainly seems a possibly! The sattelite is not a country asset and not on NATO ground, also it’s a significant escalation that would provide deterrence for the future. This would be a big bold move … does Putin has the 🥚🥚 for this? Or is he just scaring and nothing will happen?
🇷🇺🇫🇮 ANTI-SATELLITE SPACE WARS: Russian military satellite KOSMOS 2612 is now 135 meters (445 feet) from ICEYE-X36 spy satellite that provides tracking data to Ukraine. If it keeps maneuvering the same way, it will close to 45 meters (145 feet) on Monday, tomorrow. -> First aggressive satellite encounter in history! Will the Russian anti-satellite weapon hit the Finnish spy satellite with a laser to burn its camera, use electronic warfare, or just ram it? Space war about to start? PS: You can see how close it is on the video, first time in history a satellite might attack another one.

BREAKING: A Russian military satellite has maneuvered to within approximately 5 kilometers (3 miles) of a U.S.-owned commercial spy satellite operated by ICEYE, raising concerns about potential hostile activity in orbit. Russia’s Kosmos 2612 spacecraft approached ICEYE-X36 on October 16, closing from more than 200 miles away to roughly 3 miles, according to satellite-tracking company LeoLabs. ICEYE operates radar-imaging satellites capable of observing Earth’s surface through clouds and darkness, with its intelligence services used by Ukraine’s military. Independent satellite tracker Jonathan McDowell reports that the Russian spacecraft appears to be maintaining its position near ICEYE-X36, although additional tracking is needed to confirm its movements. The approach appears deliberate, according to LeoLabs, but Russia’s intentions remain unknown. No interference or damage to the ICEYE satellite has been confirmed.

🇷🇺🇫🇮🇺🇦 SATELLITE WARS IN SPACE -> Russia to take down western spy satellites? Russia launched mysterious military satellites into Space on 16 April 2026 from Plesetsk aboard a Soyuz-2.1b The exact payload is secret, but recent activity points at counter-satellite weapons. -> The mysterious Russian military satellite Kosmos 2612 is nearing the Finnish commercial spy sattelite ICEYE-X36 dangerously. Ukraine is known to use the ICEYE for targeting and Russia was recently hit with deep strikes, that relied on sattelite data. The aggressive approach started in exact this timeframe. ⁉️ The important questions are: - Did Russia deploy anti satellite weapons to space? - Is Putin willing to take down targeting satellites to enforce his red lines? We’ll find out soon enough, it could be that the satellite just closes in as a warning and stays there … but what then? -> Taking down a commercially Finnish satellite in space certainly would be an interesting escalation, especially since it’s not a NATO case because it’s not on nato ground. Keep in mind these maneuvers are fuel intensive and the Russian satellite can’t use so much fuel for nothing! The satellite will run out of fuel and just be bricked without a purpose, if they just play games. So these maneuvers are meant for something! 1/

New TLEs show that K2612 made a manuever on Oct 16 and is now stationkeeping within 5 km or less of ICEYE X36. To my knowledge this is the first LEO rendezvous of two active satellites where the owner of one of the sats did not give approval.

Kosmos-2612 made a single slow pass of ICEYE X36 at a distance of a few km and a relative speed about 20 km/hr at about 0724 UTC Oct 16, according to analysis of TLEs. Waiting for new orbital data to see if it manuevers to stationkeep or not.

Russia is expanding its war into space. Russian military satellite Kosmos 2612 has maneuvered dangerously close to an American satellite operated by Finnish company ICEYE, which provides intelligence to Ukraine. This could be preparation for an attack, espionage, or intimidation. Meanwhile, the US president is busy trying to build business relations with Russia.
