We are very sad to hear of the passing of our friend & group member @SarahFitzWiMIN She was a fierce champion for patient care & an absolute joy to work with, bringing a brilliant wit to the group. We are keeping her family in our thoughts during this difficult time. @ACPGBI

Great initial study, but how do the different anastomosis affect the long term QoL for these patients? Impact on diet, SIBO, dumping, bowel obstructions etc.
Isoperistaltic or antiperistaltic ileocolic anastomosis? A new meta-analysis of 931 patients found comparable safety after minimally invasive right hemicolectomy, with no significant differences in anastomotic leak, bleeding, recovery, or length of stay. Isoperistaltic anastomosis showed modest advantages, including shorter anastomosis time and a potentially lower risk of bowel obstruction. However, the evidence is not yet strong enough to establish superiority. For surgeons performing intracorporeal anastomosis, which orientation do you prefer, and why? @GaertnerWB @SeanLangenfeld @SWexner @SoniaRamMD #ColorectalSurgery #RoboticSurgery #RightHemicolectomy #EvidenceBasedMedicine #Anastomosis

I, Kevin Rowland (the son of Irish immigrants) and the main songwriter of ‘Come On Eileen,’ am disgusted to learn that Nigel Farage has used our song to make his entrance for his party conference. Myself, and all of Dexys are passionately against Farage’s politics. @ByDonkeys .

Mr T, 88, with dementia, became "aggressive at night" on the ward: shouting, striking out during personal care. The word "behavioural" was already in the notes, and sedation was already written up. Thankfully, someone questioned it. A nurse noticed he winced when rolled. The unwitnessed fall from the week before had been documented and forgotten. X-ray: an impacted hip fracture. He had been walking on it, after a fashion, and hurting every time anyone touched him. Regular analgesia transformed the nights within 48 hours. No antipsychotic needed. In dementia, pain rarely announces itself in words. It shows up as fight, or as silence. Examine before you sedate, and ask what the "behaviour" is trying to say. #delirium #dementia

Overall a productive few days at #ACPGBI2026 🙏 So important that I represent patients like me, but it does bring back those PTS triggers.

Doctors, beware PRN prescriptions. Laxido was prescribed for chronic constipation, but a disabled patient, no bowel monitoring in place, so it's never given. A regular prescription is far more likely to be given by carers. Remember the old adage, "PRN = pain relief nil".
Am watching the news, article about Sally Lewis who died of constipation. She was not given her medication for 300 days. No one has been held responsible for her death. My reaction is “not another one”, why are we so bad at caring for people with learning disabilities? Link ⬇️

10 years ago my wife, the mum of our kids & the MP for Batley&Spen was killed by a far right extremist. At anniversaries I try to be optimistic about the future. But not this time. In the ten years since she was killed we have gone backwards & I fear our democracy is now at risk
