ALT Enough Music Theory For Live Coding with Azhad Syed July 30th 3:45 pm the cell theater This will be a three part workshop. (30 min) In part 1, we'll cover some of the fundamentals of music theory that you need to remix popular songs. No music theory experience is required! We'll cover how to find the key of a song, how to write a bass line and harmonies, and once you're comfortable with those, how to extend harmonies and find your own sound. (30 min) In part 2, we'll talk about some of the limitations of popular western music theory, and what other systems of music theory exist in different musical cultures. We'll also review some ways to achieve music based on alternative music theories in TidalCycles. We'll use the last 30 minutes as an open workshop time for participants to try out the tools gained through the masterclass, and even do some show and tell.
