🚨 𝗡𝗘𝗪: Despite his serious injury, PSG are DETERMINED to extend Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's contract until 2032!
Talks have ALREADY BEGUN.
PSG want to make Kvaratskhelia one of the HIGHEST-PAID players at the club, while respecting their financial structure.
— @FabriceHawkins
Many people asked me about this stand, many said that if all the footballers in the world prayed, the game would end in a draw. This could be true but before every game I play I ask God to leave the field healthy but in vain. It hasn't been a long time, but it's still on my mind - why me anyway? I have never missed anything probably I prepared for this game the best I have ever prepared for. I thought I was prepared for everything, but not, and I realize that God chose me and if I protected the players on another field, I'm ready to go through these months in labor, pain, tears. I know I have to come back stronger for my people who always have my back, I won't let you down I promise I won't waste a second.
Thank you all for your support see you soon.
🚨 Joao Neves on Vitinha after PSG’s 4–2 victory over Barcelona:
“Before the match, we knew Barcelona would try to put pressure on Vitinha. You don’t play against PSG without studying him. If you allow him to receive the ball comfortably, he can control the game.
So of course they were going to try to stop him.
I remember speaking to him before we went out. I said, ‘I think they’re going to come for you tonight.’
He looked at me and said, ‘Then you have to be ready to receive the ball.’
That was it.
And that’s Vitinha. He’s not somebody who spends 20 minutes explaining how difficult the match is going to be. He already knows what he needs to do.
Beginning of the first half, you could feel how aggressively Barcelona were pressing. Sometimes I would look towards Vitinha and there were already two players moving towards him.
But he never looked worried.
There was one moment when I thought he was going to play the ball straight back because the space had disappeared. Instead, he moved slightly, gave himself another angle and found me.
Afterwards I said to him, ‘How did you even see me there?’
He said, ‘Because I knew you’d be there.’
And I started laughing because that’s the sort of answer he gives you.
But it tells you something about him. He’s thinking about the next pass before the first one arrives.
People see him turning away from pressure and think he’s just very good technically. Of course he is. But there’s something else. He trusts the players around him.
When I’m playing with him and Fabian, I know that if Vitinha is under pressure, I need to move. I can’t stand there watching him try to escape 3 Barcelona players.
Sometimes the best thing you can do for a teammate is give him somewhere to play the ball.
And that’s what we tried to do tonight.
But the funny thing is that Barcelona kept trying to stop him from influencing the game, and he kept finding ways to influence it.
If they followed him, he created space for somebody else. If they pressed him, he moved the ball. If they gave him a little room, he started controlling the tempo again.
Then we got to 2–2.
And Vitinha scored.
I ran towards him, and I remember thinking, ‘Of course it’s him.’
Because after everything Barcelona had done to make his evening difficult, he was still the one who made theirs difficult with that goal.
I told him afterwards, ‘They spent the whole game chasing you, and you still scored.’
He just smiled.
That’s what I admire about him. He doesn’t need to be the loudest player. He doesn’t need everybody talking about him before the match.
He just wants the ball.
And sometimes I think people forget what his position actually is. He’s not supposed to be the player who gets all the attention. He’s the one who helps the team function, who connects everything, who makes the difficult passes look normal.
But tonight, he did all of that and scored the winning goal against Barcelona.
For me, that’s the difference between being a very good midfielder and being somebody your opponents have to prepare their entire game around.
Barcelona knew how important Vitinha was to us.
They tried to stop him.
And now they’re going home having lost to his goal.
I think he’ll enjoy that.”
🚨 Thierry Henry on PSG’s incredible first-half performance against Barcelona:
“I’m very impressed. Very, very impressed. And it’s not simply because they’re winning. It’s the way they’re playing against Barcelona.
You have to understand something. This Barcelona team can make you look ridiculous. You give them a little space, suddenly Pedri is finding passes you didn’t know existed, Lamine Yamal is running at your defenders, and you’re spending the next 10 minutes chasing the ball.
But look at what PSG have done in this first half.
They’ve made Barcelona look uncomfortable. And I don’t say that lightly.
They’re not defending with ten players behind the ball and hoping to survive. No. They’re going after Barcelona. They’re pressing them, closing the passing lanes, winning the ball and attacking with purpose.
And I love that.
Because when you play against Barcelona, you have two choices. You can spend the evening worrying about what they’re going to do to you, or you can give them something to worry about themselves.
PSG have chosen the second option.
Look at Yamal. We know what this boy can do. He’s exceptional. But PSG aren’t allowing him to dictate the game. When he receives the ball, there’s pressure. When he tries to come inside, there’s somebody waiting. He’s having to think about things that normally come naturally to him.
And that’s how you defend against a player like that. You don’t just hope your full-back wins every one-on-one. You make sure the entire team understands where the danger is coming from.
Then you look at Barcelona’s goalkeeper, Garcia.
He’s been one of their busiest players!
That tells you everything about the mentality PSG have brought into this game.
I remember playing against teams where, after 20 minutes, you could tell they were frightened of us. They’d stop attacking. They’d give you the ball and wait for something to happen.
PSG haven’t shown Barcelona that kind of respect tonight.
And there’s a difference between respecting an opponent and being afraid of them.
Now, let’s talk about Desire Doue.
What a player.
I love watching him because he plays with confidence, but there’s intelligence behind it. He’s not just trying to entertain people. He knows when to accelerate, when to attack his defender, when to release the ball.
And then he scores.
That’s what you want from these young players. Not just beautiful touches, not just dribbling past somebody and getting the crowd excited. You have to hurt the opposition.
Doue has done exactly that
what makes this PSG side dangerous? The movement, the combinations, the understanding between players.
It’s not one superstar waiting to produce something magical. They’re working together to create the opportunity.
And what impresses me most is that Barcelona haven’t been allowed to settle.
Normally, you watch Barcelona and they’re the ones deciding how the match is played. They’re the ones making the opposition run, making them uncomfortable, forcing mistakes.
Tonight, for large parts of that first half, PSG have turned it around.
Barcelona are the ones having to react.
And I think that’s a huge compliment to the work PSG have done.
Of course, it’s only the first half. Barcelona have too much quality for anybody to think the game is finished. One moment from Yamal, one pass from Pedri, and everything can change.
But you cannot ignore what we’ve just watched.
PSG haven’t taken the lead because Barcelona forgot how to play football.
They’ve taken the lead because they’ve made it incredibly difficult for Barcelona to play the football they’re used to.
And against a team this talented, that’s an achievement in itself.
You can have all the great attacking players in the world. But if the opposition doesn’t give them the time or space to express themselves, what are they supposed to do?
That’s what PSG have understood tonight.
They’re not waiting for Barcelona to make mistakes.
They’re forcing them.”
