Two years ago today, October 7, 2023, I lay in bed, paralyzed by grief, my heart shattered by the atrocities unfolding in Israel. I felt as though I was suffocating as news of unimaginable violence poured in. I wept for the lives lost, the families torn apart, and the hostages. Worse still was the silence from those I once called friends. Silence is not neutrality. But from that darkness, resolve flickered. As a @HarperCollins book publisher, I vowed to amplify a voice of truth, resilience, and hope. I didn't know whose voice it would be at that time but the voice turned out to be that of Eli Sharabi, a former hostage whose story demanded testimony. Today, on the second anniversary of that harrowing day, his book Hostage went on sale, a testament to survival and the human spirit. Tonight, we filled one of America’s largest synagogues, Temple Emanu-El on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, with over 2,000 souls. From MSNBC to NPR, from Fox News to The New York Times, The Washington Post to The Free Press, his words have reached millions, cutting through the noise of division and indifference. It’s overwhelming, humbling, and yet profoundly reassuring. Eli says, “Hope is a muscle, and it needs to be exercised.” Today, we flexed that muscle together, lifting it high in defiance of hate, in celebration of resilience, and in commitment to a better tomorrow.

Pretty skunky book announcement today from @peoplemag ! After we got off the phone with him, I said to my team "Jeff Skunk Baxter is the most interesting person I've ever met" so we signed up his book. From yacht rock to the Pentagon the book is called FROM ROCK TO ROCKETS 🎸🚀and it is a wild ride of a read out in January from our little imprint Harper Influence

So excited that a book we've been working so hard on over the past couple years has debuted at number seven on @nytimesbooks bestseller list!!! @HarperCollins @JessieJDecker This is our fourth book with the amazing Jessie James Decker, and this time we sprinkled the little fairy dust into the recipe by adding her incredible sister, Sydney Rae Bass and their mama Karen Parker! Congrats ladies! We did it 💫

Three years ago today, an attempted genocide on the Jewish people took place. Rather than the world uniting with the Jews against a common enemy of humanity (Islamic terrorists), the West decided that Hamas (Gaza) was deserving of our full empathy and the Jews were the ones committing a "genocide." The inversion of reality is beyond what Orwell or Kafka could have imagined. The explosion of global Jew-hatred post October 7 highlights a very ugly reality: Scratch the surface and you quickly sink into the infinity pool of arguably the oldest hatred known to mankind.

This man is the most horrible human being ever to lead the most beautiful city in the world. To choose this day to further the lies and to stain the memory of 1200 beautiful souls with the outrageous and blatantly Anti-Semitic rhetoric is absolutely devastating.. when will it end?
This day is profoundly painful for so many New Yorkers. It marks three years since the horrific war crimes of October 7. On that day, Hamas killed more than 1,100 Israelis and abducted 251 others. We grieve alongside our many friends and neighbors who still carry that unthinkable loss. The suffering did not begin nor end that day. It instead continued through the Israeli government’s devastating, ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which it has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians—including more than 21,000 children. Even since the so-called ceasefire, more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed. That suffering has intensified with every Israeli bomb dropped on ambulances waiting outside hospitals, every drone strike targeting a residential building or journalist, and every shipment of food aid turned away at a border crossing. Many New Yorkers are reckoning with this unbearable grief, and we mourn alongside them – all while knowing that our tax dollars fund these war crimes. Three years later, we must refuse to accept a world in which occupation and apartheid continue, where war crimes are met with impunity, and our federal government continues its complicity with every arms shipment. To honor the dead, we must fight for a world in which every person can live with freedom, safety, and dignity.

#October7 has shaped the way I will think for the rest of my life. It has reoriented my approach to being a leader in the American #Jewish community and redefined my sense of responsibility — in what we say, what we teach and how we act. This dark day, and its aftermath, have upended decades of my assumptions and humbled me. One of the saddest developments has been the shock experienced by many American Jews, who, for the first time in their lives, are encountering pervasive hostility. The realization that age-old hatreds are still alive and kicking thrust American Jews into a crisis of confidence. We have heard eerie echoes of Europe, the haunting howls of hatred that brought our ancestors to America in the first place. What has kept me up at night is your profound concern regarding the intensification of #antisemitism. That a massacre of Jews in #Israel — the worst we've seen since the Holocaust — has resulted in protests and violence against Jews at the doors of our houses of worship and communal spaces in this country is shocking. That Israelis murdered in their own homes in Israel — in its internationally recognized borders — and would be blamed for their own victimhood — appalls us. The disappointment, even betrayal, that we feel from our social justice allies, with whom we have stood shoulder to shoulder in the struggle to create a better world, have shaken us and resulted in severed relations. Jewish history has proven conclusively that it is far better for us to have power and agonize over its moral use than to be powerless and at the mercy of the dark lords. The clear lessons of centuries of Jewish history must not be misconstrued. Our vulnerability is the impetus to widespread animus, not our power. Israel was founded to empower Jews. After 2,000 years, a persecuted, abandoned, decimated people finally rose up and said ‘enough.’ The days of murdering and massacring Jews with impunity are over. We will protect ourselves. We will defend our people. We will be masters of our own fate. We shall return to the ancient homeland and live again. Amidst the turmoil, polarization and anxieties of our times, do not abandon your affection, responsibility and loyalty to our own people. Our destinies are tied one to the other. We have many different views, we believe many different things. We are a contentious, argumentative, strong-willed, opinionated family, but we are family that assumes the obligations and responsibilities of love for each other. There is no force in the world more powerful than the united spirit of the Jewish people in urgent times. The tragedies of October 7 and the years of October 8 have produced so many young Jewish heroes filled with the spirit of righteousness, who feel called to defend their families, their friends, their people, and all that is good and noble in this world. Be like them. Join the struggle. Do not sit it out. Fight back everywhere, each in our own corner.

Mamdani’s "first-ever" antisemitism strategy is mostly just the Adams plan that he deleted on Day 1 of his administration, but with every page that touches Israel torn out. That is the whole review, the rest is commentary. But now that you are here, let me explain:
The Talmud teaches that anyone who sustains one soul, has sustained an entire world. For generations, Jewish New Yorkers have sustained our city. Today, we are launching the first-ever municipal Strategy to Combat Antisemitism. Together, we will ensure Jewish New Yorkers are safe and celebrated. We will invest in their protection, their history, and their future. Our safety and our thriving are tied together.

You are human beings, I'm a human being; you want a happy life, and I want a happy life. But I think that aim will not be fulfilled only on the basis of material values; what we all want is affection and what we all need is to be more warm-hearted.

Honored to have my research mentioned by @netanyahu in his address to the UNGA. Israel has in fact implemented more civilian harm mitigation measures (many that no nation has ever even imagined/attemped) than any military in history. The other facts in his speech were also spot on. Israel has not only implemented extraordinary precautions in urban warfare to prevent civilian harm while Hamas has done everything it can to increase civilian harm, there is no genocide, actually the opposite of genocide in Gaza, Israel provided tons of food, water, medical supplies, facilitated immunizations for the entire populations, field hospitals, built new water lines, electricity, got patients to hospitals outside of Gaza, and much more.

The first time I saw Ed Sheeran in concert, it was his debut at Madison Square Garden and it was an amazing show. His family was there and he performed just like he did at Gilette Stadium just Ed Sheeran on stage with a guitar using the same equipment that he's got tonight. Good for him.
So the opening acts cancelled and his own band quit. Ed Sheeran says hold my beer. 😉
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Ed Sheeran has not performed since his opening acts all canceled on September 17th - his last concert was September 5th and his next will be September 19th. This performance was from his "Loop Tour" earlier the same year. pastdates.edsheeran.com edsheeran.com/#tour
