🚨 SYRIAN REFUGEE ACCUSED OF STABBING FOUR TODDLERS, INCLUDING THREE-YEAR-OLD BRITISH GIRL, TO FACE TRIAL ON 13 ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES A Syrian refugee accused of carrying out a knife attack at a children’s playground in the French Alps, leaving four toddlers and two elderly adults injured, is to stand trial on 13 attempted murder charges. Abdalmasih Hanoun is accused of attacking children aged between just 22 months and three years at Le Pâquier park in Annecy, France, on 8 June 2023. Among the victims was a three-year-old British girl who had been visiting the popular tourist destination with her parents. Witnesses described scenes of panic as a knife-wielding man entered the playground and allegedly began attacking young children, including a toddler sitting in a pushchair. Disturbing footage circulated online showing the attack, with some images considered too graphic for television broadcasts. Two elderly adults were also injured before police intervened and arrested the suspect, shooting him in the legs. The British girl suffered a stab wound, although prosecutors confirmed that her condition was never critical. French prosecutors announced on 7 October 2026 that Hanoun would face trial after judges considered psychiatric evidence and concluded that his mental state at the time did not remove his criminal responsibility. The charges involve 13 alleged attempted murders, alongside additional allegations of armed violence and resisting police with a weapon. Prosecutors have previously stated that the attack did not appear to be terrorism-related. The case is expected to be heard at Haute-Savoie Assize Court in Annecy within the next year, subject to any further legal challenge.
