Top 10 #Cisco stories in 2022. One of the stories the SDWAN BU worked on is the integration. Thanks to cisco leadership, teammates & integration partners for making this happen. sdxcentral.com/articles/news… #SASE #Security #cloudsecurity @Netskope @Cloudflare @zscaler
49 classes logged. One away from 50.
My tracker always showed heart rate. Never looked at it..just steps, calories, duration. Started paying attention a few months back and found out I'd been living in Zone 0 the whole time. Still can't hold Zone 3.
Travel starts in a couple days. Trying to squeeze one more class in before I leave.
Anyone else chasing a number right now..F45, Orangetheory, CrossFit, whatever yours is?

Networking team built it for routing, not security.
Infrastructure treats it as a security boundary because that's how it looks on a diagram.
Security finds out it isn't — usually after an attacker's already moved through one.
Ransomware showed up in 44% of all breaches last year, up sharply from the year before, per Verizon's latest breach report.
Segmented on a diagram isn't the same as contained in practice.
VLANs and zones group things together.
Microsegmentation decides what those things are allowed to talk to..no matter which VLAN or zone they're sitting in.

Every AI project I have seen follows the same order: figure out what it does, get it working, get people excited about it..security comes later.
Except later never really comes.
Once something's built a certain way, adding real protection means tearing apart decisions that are already locked in. Nobody wants to be the one who says lets redo this.
Seen this play out with networks for years. AI's not any different..just new enough that we're making the same mistake again, in a shinier wrapper.

Picking back up from Tuesday. Two more things stuck with me from VMware Explore.
Third thing — sovereign cloud. Came up in almost every conversation, no matter who I was talking to.
Machine accounts already outnumber human ones in most places I've seen.
Get in once, and without segmentation or Zero Trust in place — nothing stops the move from that one entry point to everything next to it.
This is the part an industry event does that a webinar can't. Hear the same thing from enough different people, in enough different accents, and it stops being a one-off.

Took some time off after @VMwareExplore to recharge.
One line from a keynote stuck with me: bring the model to the data, not the data to the model.
Moving your data out is slow and risky. Bring the model home instead — nothing has to leave.

7 days in Vegas. 90 plus outside every day. Never felt it once..never left the building.
Health band says 10k steps a day though, so hallways count as cardio apparently. Also says I’m in sleep debt. Can’t argue with that.
The part I’ll remember isn’t a session. It’s the dinners.
Folks I only knew from calls turned out to be mountain bikers, home cooks, Hyrox people.
Argued about health bands vs rings like it actually mattered. Which shoes survive 10k steps a day. Whose backpack is better. Uber vs Lyft. Airline miles. Flying taxis. Robo Olympics. Somebody brought up Skynet. Where this whole AI era is actually headed.
Different cuisine every night, and yes, Indian food made the list 😊
Different countries, different accents, some of us from places in the news for the wrong reasons.
At that table, none of it mattered.
Nobody talked about a deal till coffee and dessert.
That’s the part a screen can’t do.

There used to be a human behind the request, and a human behind the attack.
Not anymore, not always.
Machine-to-machine traffic is rising fast, alongside human traffic — agents talking to agents, APIs calling APIs.
The attacker’s changed too. Used to be one mind, typing. Now it’s AI-generated — the recon, the exploit code, the phishing lure.
Machines building attacks for other machines to run.
Machine identities now often outnumber human ones — quieter to compromise than a person.
Heard this at Explore more than once this week.
More machine connections, bigger blast radius.
Zero Trust says don’t assume any of them are safe.
Microsegmentation is how you shrink that radius.

“Security is intrinsic” is this year’s favorite Explore slide.
Frontier AI just put every eyeball on it.
Gartner’s said this for years. Forrester too. The idea was never the problem.
Message didn’t change. The room finally did.

Flight delayed three times last night, landed way later than planned. Today’s running on coffee. Four cups in, counting. 😀
Worth every bit of it. Spending this week with cloud and service provider partners — the people building private cloud day in, day out. A lot of them I’ve only known over Zoom until now.
Nothing like turning a screen into a handshake.
