It’s true that children are not “huddled round the same TV” as they did in the 1970s. But Newsround has also changed since then, and is using digital platforms to reach children with the news. Over 70% of primary school teachers use Newsround in class

Newsround is 50 years old in April. I can't think of a better legacy for those who had the foresight to bring it into existence than its current coverage of Ukraine.

We're really grateful for the thanks we've received from parents and teachers, it means a lot. The credit rests with that team putting kids first in all of the coverage, just as Edward Barnes and John Craven envisaged back in 1972.
Finally, Newsround is there to reassure with honesty, wherever children have heard or seen about what's going on in the world. bbc.co.uk/newsround/13865002
Very sad to hear of the death of Edward Barnes. It was a privilege yesterday to speak with many former colleagues of Edward, and to pass on condolences to his family. What a towering legacy he leaves, without him @bbcnewsround would not exist. bbc.co.uk/newsround/58437339
