Bachibros, y'all are so blessed to have Phil Christie lettering the series. These sound effects are so damn good. Especially that fourth image, with the curved K.

After the @yenpress panel at #NYCC, i stuck around for the Kadokawa “World Wordless Manga Contest” panel with Hiroyuki Watanabe, editor of Sgt Frog and the Neon Genesis Evangelion manga to find out some fascinating facts about the manga biz in Japan

heh.. rare fun moment I got away with lettering (Itaewon Class, Vol 2).😊 Ever since I noticed how close "A" looks to a star, I've been itching for this type of opportunity...... now I can rest in peace...

hey know what's cheaper than 19 million dollars? layered art or separate cleaned assets designed for localization from the start

Unfortunate. I read the one-shot and it was very disappointing. The manga uses stylized text to represent the inner thoughts that the protag can't quite voice, but Orange didn't pay a redrawer or letterer to replicate it properly. They also just skip over some text entirely.

Turns out my gut feeling was right. Something WAS off. Orange Inc. just announced their partnership with Shueisha to translate all these new titles Jump+ oneshots "with AI assistance". 🙄

It's been a little while since I did one of these, but I just finished lettering a manga last week that I think came out looking particularly good, so I'm posting the sound effects here

As much as I love Comikey Media as a platform, it's been 2 years, and we still have no credits. I want to emphasize how important it is for a company to credit its localizers, and it makes me sad to see when a company doesn't fulfill its promises.
