It’s not a dumb question. There’s a technical reason behind it.
Computers use binary, which works naturally with powers of 2:
8 → 16 → 32 → 64 → 128 → 256 → 512 → 1,024.
Each step doubles the number of possible storage units, making memory chips and storage architectures easier to design and organize.
Could manufacturers make a 150GB or 300GB drive? Absolutely. There’s no rule against it.
But standard capacities based on powers of 2 are convenient for designing memory systems, while manufacturing economics, chip configurations, and product segmentation also influence what gets sold.
So it’s engineering first, with a bit of marketing layered on top.

Charles Thomson finalized the Great Seal in 1782 with William Barton, using elements from earlier committees. Unfinished pyramid: strength and duration for a still-building nation (13 levels for original states). Eye of Providence: Renaissance Christian symbol of divine oversight, via du Simitière. Annuit Coeptis: He [God] has favored our undertakings. Novus Ordo Seclorum: A new order of the ages. MDCCLXXVI: 1776, Declaration of Independence year.

Fuck soft parenting, man. In high school, I once sneaked out nikaenda kununua "kuber." Came to class nikaeka chini ya ulimi, alafu unajua ilikua inashika instantly, and I was a lightweight when it came to drugs. Zikashika bana, nkapatwa na depaa and was expelled.
Kufika home, mum was aware cause she was told. Akaniambia, "Ngojea baba yako msemezane jioni." Alafu my father ni wale majamaa anakuekelea mangumi kama mwanaume, and I was a slim boy, weighing probably 44–47 kgs.
That night, mzee aliniekelea mangumi, akanirusha kwa ukuta, and what I remember, he gave me one hot blow. Nkaskia mum amesema, "Hutaniulia mtoto!" Yeye naye akapigwa ile koffii ya kando ya mkono inaitagwa kumanyoko. Tukalala wote chini.
Mzae akatoka akadisappear kama two days. Third day, alitumia mum pesa akasema nipelekwe shule, and from that day, mimi nikaokoka, never to disturb the school again.
It made me who I am today.

You may have noticed that the word for ‘night’ in many languages appears to be that language’s word for ‘eight’ with an ‘N' in front of it.
English: N + eight = Night
German: N + acht = Nacht
French: N + huit = Nuit
Spanish: N + ocho = Noche
Italian: N + otto = Notte
Portuguese: N + oito = Noite
