Has anyone here done cool stuff with home assistant? Looking for some creative ideas! Mqtt and Zigbee are available, as is the rest of the standard stuff.

Many firms invested heavily in AI, afraid they’d miss the bus. Turns out, bus was going in wrong direction. They would’ve been better off not investing in #AI w/o first knowing costs, use cases, or even what AI was supposed to do for them in first place. brothke.medium.com/the-ai-bi…
I'm trying to upload a file (about 800MB) into a locally running DeepSeek model (ollama and open-webui), but the ui times out before it finishes processing. Any suggestions on how to fix that? I guess I could split it up in multiple smaller files, that seems like effort ;)
The alure of listening to shortwave radio transmissions directly from antenna to transceiver and without any network or computer attached remains strong. Too bad most of the utility signals are digital and (presumably) well-encrypted.
Still-- there are some things that sound like human voices (numbers stations, hfgcs, atc, amateur, etc.)

I have been away from Twitter for a while. While trying to catch up on what happened during my absence, lots of AI and ML tweets dominate my timeline. That was fully expected.
But more surprising: I keep seeing tons of posts that imply that the only way to be secure is by stacking a ton of technologies on top of the stuff that you’re supposed to be defending.
Solving crap with more crap seems to be a fundamentally flawed approach. Are we sliding back to the mentality of the early 2000s but just with fancier toys?
Essential Computer Science Lore
Watching a class of undergrad CS students work on a midterm exam for a C programming course was a good motivator to start putting together this list of “Essential CS Lore”.

Willing to give @leune@infosec.exchange on Mastodon a shot. Hoping for a much better signal-to-noise ratio over there
A solar flare index of 252 is probably one of the higher ones I have seen in a long time. Let's see what this does to propagation conditions!
That moment when you're working on a loaner laptop that has been locked down for "security", which makes it practically unusable, and it takes 30s to bypass if you know what you're doing. Security that hamstrings device users is ineffective. Maybe consult the security team first?
6m was on fire today with sporadic E. Watching that fade out on the WSJTX waterfall is amazing. Took less than 5 minutes from 2000km+ signals to barely a local peep.
The 6m amateur radio band is weird. VHF but 1000+ mi without issues on one day. S9 noise floor the next. Completely dead the following. #hamradio
It would appear that my students are somewhat unhappy with my final Applied Cryptography exam. I thought it was actually a very fair exam. I guess the grades will tell the story.
Great article at nytimes.com/2022/05/13/opini…. I can confirm this too. More F's than ever before (20%), but also more A+'s (also 20%), with the rest in A-B range. No C's and D's (as in: 0%). Very bimodal. Good students do well, but students needing more help are really feeling it.
