500K VIEWS on @WordPress
I started my blog, joannaesl, in June 2021, and now, 500,000 views later, I'm so grateful for everyone who's read, shared, and supported my ESL content. 🍾
On Tuesday I had a trial lesson with a student on one of the online teaching platforms. He didn’t say hello. Didn’t really respond to my small talk. And then, completely straight-faced said to me - OK, you now have 50 minutes to impress me...😐
It threw me off and instead of making me want to impress him, it made me think - I don’t want to impress you at all. So I said, very tongue-in-cheek that I was done impressing students and that I thought the student should also impress the teacher.
It took me 1.5 months after maternity leave to get new students and finally have a somewhat liveable schedule 😅
We’re back, baby😂
Slowly making the pivot from ESL teacher to ESL content writer & lesson planner 🤞🏽
I’m currently looking for freelance collaborations with educational companies, publishers and other ESL professionals. My DMs are open!
I’ve been going through my old lesson plans: checking and fixing, and updating anything that’s started to feel a little…outdated.😅
One of my favourites is getting a proper makeover - CAE Mastering Paraphrasing.
Fresh look. Updated content - but MUCH more exciting to teach. 👀
I feel like I’ve naturally become a content creator over the years.
And honestly, it feels like it could fit my life much better now. I need flexibility, and creating content gives me more freedom than being tied to live classes.
Sounds easy, right?
Spoilers alert: it isn't!😂
I enjoy teaching EFL, but after years of teaching online, I’ve started wondering if I want to spend most of my working week in live classes😩
As you know, I’ve been increasingly drawn to content writing.
It’s a whole different challenge, but I think this time I’ve got this 💪🏽
My maternity leave has ended. My original plan? Get back to teaching. I messaged my students...and crickets.😂 Definitely fewer replies than expected.
Now I have some time to think about what I actually want to do next. Has anyone else been through that? What did you do?😩
When I started JoannaESL, I created lessons based on individual students' needs. Over time, the library lost its structure.
In my latest blog post, I explain why I created Lessonarium and share how I turn a date on the calendar into an ESL lesson.
