US leader Donald Trump’s administration is fascinating to watch. Mr Trump looks at the map, unilaterally renames the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America, and that’s fine. He looks at the map again, unilaterally renames Lake Ontario, and that’s okay.
Yet when the world - via the UN - looks at a centuries-old 1569 Mercator map that portrays Africa as several times smaller than its actual size, action is eventually taken. On 4 September, the UN adopted a non-binding “Correct the Map” resolution encouraging governments, schools, media, and tech companies to use equal-area projections - specifically the 2018 Equal Earth map - to accurately represent the true scale of continents and countries.
The vote passed 164–1, with the United States casting the sole vote against. Trump’s ambassador to the UN dismissed the initiative as a waste of time, calling it further proof of why the organisation is “irrelevant”.
There is a striking irony in a leader redrawing the map at a whim, only to dismiss a global effort to represent geography accurately as a waste of time.

Fascism doesn't begin when everybody becomes evil.
That's the comforting fairy tale.
It begins when enough people become comfortable with somebody else losing their rights.

The political opponent.
Everybody thinks they're safely standing behind the line.
Nobody notices the line keeps moving.

Mr Poilievre says his party reached out to the PM to offer their help. lol why would Prime Minister Carney and his carefully picked negotiators need help from inexperienced, unaccomplished, third-rate amateurs? It’s like a brain surgeon needing help from a toddler.

Hey racists/anti-immigrants that are always crying “go back to your country,”
7 of the 9 goals in Canadian World Cup history has come from an immigrant/child of immigrants:
Alphonso Davies: Liberian (born in a refugee camp in Ghana)
Cyle Larin: Jamaican
Jonathan David: Haitian (born in Brooklyn)
William Saliba: Haitian-Lebanese
Sam Adekugbe (he did not score a goal, but forced an own goal vs Morocco back in 2022): Nigerian (born in London, UK)
If you’re enjoying this success Canada is having lately, a large part of it is because of immigration.

I'll remind the commentators that while this may be the greatest day in Canadian men's soccer history, the greatest day in Canadian soccer history was the day Christine Sinclair led the women's team to a gold medal in the Olympics.

On this day in 1959, a Canadian conservative Prime Minister cancelled the Avro Arrow program to please the Americans. This would be the start of decades of Canadian conservatives kissing the asses of American leaders
