Today, Danish Parliament adopted a new Penal Code chapter criminalizing #torture, #warcrimes, and #crimesagainsthumanity (100 for, 9 against). Bill L58 ratifies key amendments to the #ICC Statute, incl. the crimes of aggression, #genocide, and starvation as a method of #warfare.

This milestone follows work by DIGNITY, Amnesty International Denmark, and the Institute for Human Rights. My team members at Amnesty, Elise Bangert, in the War Crimes Committee and Lisa Blinkenberg worked hard for this. DIGNITY played a vital role w input for this law.

Now it’s crucial that resources are allocated to implement #universaljurisdiction effectively in Denmark. All perpetrators—whether from #Russia, #Syria, #Israel, #Sudan, or Western powers—must be held accountable in Danish courts. #HumanRights
