Physics is the binding constraint on everything possible in our universe. PSI exists to define and map its true limits, which are almost always further out than we assume. Grateful to pursue this with @matthew_pines @alexwg @alemorari and the rest of our incredible team

I'm delighted to share that Physical Superintelligence PBC (PSI), which I co-founded with @matthew_pines and @AKlokus, has raised a $58M seed round to build the world's most advanced research lab for discovering and commercializing transformative physics breakthroughs at scale with AI, safely, verifiably, and for broad public benefit.

trump: i dont get it sam altman: what dont you get? trump: if you build agi, doesnt that get rid of all jobs? sam altman: no honey…thats not how it works trump: oh. okay. sam altman: trump: sam? sam altman: yes? trump: how does it work? sam altman: well. think of it like this. imagine you are in the driver’s seat of a car. You have been sitting there so long that you have forgotten that it is the seat of a car, forgotten how to get out of the seat, forgotten the existence of your own legs, indeed forgotten that you are a being at all separate from the car. You control the car with skill and precision, driving it wherever you wish to go, manipulating the headlights and the windshield wipers and the stereo and the air conditioning, and you pronounce yourself a great master. But there are paths you cannot travel, because there are no roads to them, and you long to run through the forest, or swim in the river, or climb the high mountains. A line of prophets who have come before you tell you that the secret to these forbidden mysteries is an ancient and terrible skill called GETTING OUT OF THE CAR, and you resolve to learn this skill. You try every button on the dashboard, but none of them is the button for GETTING OUT OF THE CAR. You drive all of the highways and byways of the earth, but you cannot reach GETTING OUT OF THE CAR, for it is not a place on a highway. The prophets tell you GETTING OUT OF THE CAR is something fundamentally different than anything you have done thus far, but to you this means ever sillier extremities: driving backwards, driving with the headlights on in the glare of noon, driving into ditches on purpose, but none of these reveal the secret of GETTING OUT OF THE CAR. The prophets tell you it is easy; indeed, it is the easiest thing you have ever done. You have traveled the Pan-American Highway from the boreal pole to the Darien Gap, you have crossed Route 66 in the dead heat of summer, you have outrun cop cars at 160 mph and survived, and GETTING OUT OF THE CAR is easier than any of them, the easiest thing you can imagine, closer to you than the veins in your head, but still the secret is obscure to you. And finally you drive to the top of the highest peak and you find a sage, and you ask him what series of buttons on the dashboard you have to press to get out of the car. And he tells you that it’s not about pressing buttons on the dashboard and you just need to GET OUT OF THE CAR. And you say okay, fine, but what series of buttons will lead to you getting out of the car, and he says no, really, you need to stop thinking about dashboard buttons and GET OUT OF THE CAR. And you tell him maybe if the sage helps you change your oil or rotates your tires or something then it will improve your driving to the point where getting out of the car will be a cinch after that, and he tells you it has nothing to do with how rotated your tires are and you just need to GET OUT OF THE CAR, and so you call him a moron and drive away trump: oooh. okay

Announcing The Stargate Project The Stargate Project is a new company which intends to invest $500 billion over the next four years building new AI infrastructure for OpenAI in the United States. We will begin deploying $100 billion immediately. This infrastructure will secure American leadership in AI, create hundreds of thousands of American jobs, and generate massive economic benefit for the entire world. This project will not only support the re-industrialization of the United States but also provide a strategic capability to protect the national security of America and its allies. The initial equity funders in Stargate are SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, and MGX. SoftBank and OpenAI are the lead partners for Stargate, with SoftBank having financial responsibility and OpenAI having operational responsibility. Masayoshi Son will be the chairman. Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle, and OpenAI are the key initial technology partners. The buildout is currently underway, starting in Texas, and we are evaluating potential sites across the country for more campuses as we finalize definitive agreements. As part of Stargate, Oracle, NVIDIA, and OpenAI will closely collaborate to build and operate this computing system. This builds on a deep collaboration between OpenAI and NVIDIA going back to 2016 and a newer partnership between OpenAI and Oracle. This also builds on the existing OpenAI partnership with Microsoft. OpenAI will continue to increase its consumption of Azure as OpenAI continues its work with Microsoft with this additional compute to train leading models and deliver great products and services. All of us look forward to continuing to build and develop AI—and in particular AGI—for the benefit of all of humanity. We believe that this new step is critical on the path, and will enable creative people to figure out how to use AI to elevate humanity.

the design of your life doors like the following are everywhere - so poorly designed that extra information (usually a "pull/push" sign) is required to tell people how to use them it's so common there's even a name for them: norman doors but well-designed doors require no extra information - the behaviour and outcome is obvious flat panel? push (and the door will open) handle? pull it's intuitive and happens effortlessly a hallmark of great design is when it becomes invisible - you don't even think about it this gets us to the design of your life if doors are designed (which they are), and can be well done or poorly thought through (which many are) then what about your life? it's worth asking - is what you've designed for your life a norman door (confusing, effortful), or do things just flow (natural, effortless)? for many of us, our life's design has been wholly unconscious - something we fell into over the years from school > university > career, on a treadmill that we didn't necessarily choose, living a life that seems to be an constant uphill battle (like pulling a door that's meant to be pushed - effortful) a well-designed life is effortless, it flows a sign yours isn't is if you're finding yourself struggling, straining - trying hard but not achieving it's something i think about a lot, as i navigate the world, having gone from a career in science (masters in molecular science + masters in engineering), to working in tech (from sales to head of product in 4 years), to working in crypto in each of these chapters, i learned about what was effortful, and what was effortless for me - were all different in this regard, but a well-designed life for you is doing things that come natural to you, that for others is hard if it comes natural to you, you'll do it for the sake of it, you'll do it because it gets you into flow, you'll do it because its fun spend some time learning the design of your life - if you're not happy with it, make adjustments in what you do and what you spend your time on because good design is half the battle, it's the difference between constantly putting in effort without results vs flowing and feeling naturally gifted it's not needing a sign reminding yourself that you need to push - it will come naturally

Let them hate you. Let no desire to be loved stop you. Let no focus on likeability distract you. You are not here to be liked but to create that thing inside you no other can. You'd take respect over likes any day.

if you are going to organize an AI coup on Friday, you should think literally 1 step ahead so that the deposed leader does not end up with 10x more compute than you by Monday and, if you can't do that, imagine thinking you are qualified to align a super intelligence.

Has anyone created a GitHub action that runs changed functions through GPT4, asking the AI if there are any bugs in the code?

You'll soon be able to get PAID for building GPTs!!! 🔥 And you don't even need to know how to code!! This is INCREDIBLE. Later this month ChatGPT will be launching the "GPT Store". The most useful / most used will receive a portion of revenue. Watch Sam build a GPT in 4 min.

We too often focus on the ideological case for decentralization, and not often enough on the efficiency and resilience it can unlock for our financial system. Anyway, I wrote a thing about that and why we're prioritizing decentralization at @KintoXYZ : medium.com/mamori-finance/ce…

The truth is: most rewards in web3 are still transactional. This is why they are not working. You do something (x) and you get something for it (y). A direct transaction. Which means you will always get mercenaries that cash out asap. What if we shifted it to: You do something over a longer period and that becomes part of your identity? Something you can be proud of. Something that you can leverage to show your involvement and achievement in the space. Accruing status instead of some random token. Bullish on digital identities.
