It’s hard to imagine many people having a bigger impact than Dolly Parton. Born in a one-room cabin, she earned 11 Grammys and an Emmy, built a business empire, helped millions of kids learn to read, and — as if that wasn’t enough — helped accelerate the research that led to the Moderna COVID vaccine. What a life. Michelle and I are thinking of Dolly’s family and her many, many fans.
Breaking News: Dolly Parton, the country singer, songwriter, entertainer and entrepreneur known for her outsize persona and prodigious vision and talent that placed her in a class by herself, has died at 80. nyti.ms/45Prr77

That’s a wrap! I had the privilege of moderating a debate between two remarkable scholars on AI & Inequity in Low Middle Income settings at the Center for Global Health Equity. The resolution for the house was “AI is worsening the gap in inequities rather than reducing it.” My colleagues Dr. Bilial Butt, Professor of Enviroment and Sustainability here at University of Michigan, was the affirmative debator, and Ms. Farhana Alarakhiya, Chief Data Innovation Officer of Aga Khan University in Nairobi, Kenya, was against the resolution. It was spirited and quite a challenge to stay neutral! Thank you, Dr. @AkbarWaljee , for the invitation! @umichmedicine @UMichMedSchool @aafp

Wonderful to be back at @HenryFordHealth to give Family Medicine Grand Rounds on “Family Medicine Ambassadorship: The importance of Family Medicine Leadership Outside Our Specialty,” after spending my @UMichMedSchool M3 year there over 30 years ago. Grateful for the invitation from program director Richard Bryce. What a vibrant & thoughtful department! Great questions! Bonus: running into Amer. Med Assn. President & former med school classmate, Bobby Mukkamala, as he was leaving after giving Radiology Grand Rounds! @aafp @umichmedicine @MIFamilyDocs #GrandRoundsTagTeam

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to testify before the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health as part of their hearing: Lowering Health Care Costs for All Americans: An Examination of the U.S. Provider Landscape. I spoke about an issue that affects every patient, family physician in America: the rising cost of health care. Family physicians have seen firsthand how the cost of care impacts patients. Too often, people delay care, skip medications or struggle to follow treatment plans because they simply cannot afford them. No one should have to choose between getting medical care and meeting basic needs like food or housing. During my testimony, I emphasized that strong primary care is one of the most effective ways to improve health outcomes and lower costs. I shared with lawmakers that meaningful progress will require thoughtful policy reforms, including modernizing physician payment, reducing administrative burdens like prior authorization and ensuring patients can access key primary care services without unnecessary cost barriers. Family physicians are committed to caring for patients and communities every day. I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring their voices to Congress and to advocate for policies that strengthen primary care and improve the health of our nation.

Advocacy in our student body is alive and well! There were over 40 passionate students gathered around delicious naan hearing about advocacy, including the 3 reasons to get involved with the @AmerMedicalAssn: 1) Advocacy- Working on behalf patients learners, and physicians for important issues in medicine. 2) Skills - crafting effective resolutions, stating your position with clarity, collaborating for the good. 3) People - the house of delegates represents every state society, speciality society, phase of medicine and branch of the military. The reward: lasting friendships, a vast network of colleagues. @umichmedicine @UMichMedSchool

Replying to @Uber_Support
@Uber_Support hi there I ordered Sushi and received a tool from Lowe’s instead. My Uber Eats drive even took a picture of the tool and said she had delivered my Chinese food. I submitted a ticket through Help on the app and they responded that everything has been reviewed and the policy was followed. I still have a tool instead of my food. I need a refund of my $32.
