If anyone here is looking for CHUNGKING EXPRESS (1994) with its original color grading, here's a link. This is the only way to watch the film as it looked in theaters in the '90s, and the only version that truly honors the work of DoP Christopher Doyle.

Was recently made aware of an incredible collection of Japanese experimental gig flyers from 1975 to 1994. Lots of beautifully hand drawn/handwritten graphics, treated photographs, and collaging. Link to the full archive in the replies.

I don’t want to rely on lazy stereotypes here but the French are in the streets for a better education system and the British are in the streets cos they hate and want to deport brown people

Palantir's merch feels like the endpoint in streetwear's evolution, which started with young kids in urban areas — mostly ethnic minorities from low-income families — creating their own style from the ground up. Over time, that aesthetic was co-opted by luxury brands seeking "authenticity." And now, by a surveillance company seeking cultural capital. Streetwear used to be an aesthetic defined by the ground-up by people were disempowered in political and economic life, but engaged in actual street culture. Now it's an aesthetic dictated from the top down by giant corporations with no conenction to such cultures. And used by political and economic elites who want to appear as outsiders.

Happy birthday to Yusef Lateef, born on this day in 1920! Tenor sax, flute and oboe player who folded Eastern scales and instruments into hard bop and modal jazz. “Eastern Sounds” remains the album most people start with.
