βAnd who finances their training? Who secures them their equipment? Who advises them during missions? Who arranges for repairs and maintenance to be carried out?
Every pilot believes they deserve the greatest share of the accolades, but most are nothing without their team.β

πoney, I wanna break you. I wanna throw you to the hounds. Yeah, I gotta hurt you. I gotta hear it from your mouth.

Handlerβs expression is stony and defiant, but behind that cold veneer, she is weighing her odds.
In the end, she decides that this isnβt worth her life. She makes a halting gesture with her fist.
βStand down.β
The soldiers lower their weapons hesitantly.
β
βYouβre suggesting that our tactics are lacking, that the Coalition are outsmarting us. A dangerous notion to share out loud.β
The room goes quiet for a second.
βBut not an inaccurate one. Thankfully, I believe a rather simple solution has presented itself to us already.β
β
βIf we capture a Coalition ace, weβll stand to gain not only intel, but also a potential Hound trained in insurgent tactics. And once it takes the field on our side, it will have a significant demoralizing effect on its former allies.β
She brings her cigarette to her lips.

βNo one is born an ace,β she muses, taking a puff of her smoke. βYou make them one. You train them, condition them, give them the best killing implements money can buy, and hope the enemy doesnβt send somebody with more experience.β
She ashes the cigarette into the ashtray.
β
βThe advantage our project has in producing aces is stripping away all of the pesky faults that can get a pilot in the field killed.
Morals, agency, ego. A Hound doesnβt concern itself with such things. It becomes only its most base urges to kill and survive. In that order.β

honestly I'm hard-pressed to see Handler being shipped romantically unless chemistry is very good, and even then it's likely she'd only be involved with another person as long as they further her interests. she's married to the job first and foremost.
and like, sure she gets off on her work sometimes, but she's not exactly banging her Hounds or other subordinates. it's more about having the power over them than actually being sexually attracted to any of them. basically, she isn't fuckin anyone unless it's off the clock
Whatβs inside Handlerβs big coat pockets?
She could tell you, but then sheβd have to kill you.
Only joking. Sheβs got a pack of cigarettes, a lighter, her concealed handgun, a clicker, a mysterious remote with only a single button on it, and her wallet.
