At #Udaan2026, Sampath Kumar (Additional Chief Secretary & Development Commissioner, Government of Meghalaya) and Dr. Dinesh Arora (Principal Health Specialist, Asian Development Bank) joined our co-founder Namya Mahajan for a fireside chat on building early childhood systems that work.
They discussed how states can make early childhood a development priority. Sampath Kumar shared how Meghalaya cut stunting from 46% to 36% by building leadership at every level, working across departments, and supporting parents as well as children.
Dr. Arora called for a single ECD mission that measures children’s cognitive and social-emotional development alongside nutrition, and noted that ECD now features in ADB’s India strategy for the first time.
The takeaway: early childhood needs government ownership, a mission-mode structure, and a sharp focus on implementation.

Anganwadis play a vital role in shaping a child’s early years. Strengthening these centres today is key to building a strong foundation for every child’s tomorrow.

At #Udaan2026, the conversation “Lessons from Academia” brought together four researchers to connect the evidence on early childhood with the decisions that shape children’s everyday lives.
Moderated by our Education and Content Lead, Sukhna Sawhney, the takeaway from the discussion was that the evidence for investing in early childhood is strong. What India needs now is more research on costs, implementation and scale, built in close partnership with governments and the communities they serve.

Scaling an organisation takes more than growth. It takes the right people, strong systems and a shared vision for what comes next. :rocket:
At our annual Managers’ retreat, our co-founder Azeez Gupta sat down with Mohit Bhatnagar to explore what it takes to grow from a medium-sized organisation into one that operates at scale. From navigating change to building system for the long term, the conversation offered valuable perspectives on what it takes to scale sustainably while staying true to our mission.
With our co-founders coming together at the retreat, it was also an opportunity to reflect on our journey so far and the work that lies ahead as we continue reaching millions of children across India. We believe scaling the impact starts with strengthening the people behind it.
