Trump: You’re Fired, by @dianefrancis1 dianefrancis.substack.com/p/…

“Trump has been forced to face his political mortality. He asked voters to make these midterm elections a referendum on him, to imagine that his name was on the ballot. They listened—and then rejected him. It is a truly stunning, widespread rebuke” theatlantic.com/politics/202…

Democrats leaned into voters' anxieties around AI and data centers, and last night, they rode that wave to victory. Lobbyists and strategists say it's only the beginning of the era of AI elections.

These first time voters:
- Grew up with Trump and want something different
- Can’t afford their life or the life they want
- Are really worried about AI
- Are angry about ICE, war, & corruption
The “Underdog Advantage” still works…

3/ Trump's midterm reckoning offers a cautionary tale for future leaders. If strategy is disconnected from the priorities of the American people and indifferent to the costs they're willing to bear, it will struggle to survive contact with voters.

2/ Trump was elected in 2024 with a promise to bring down costs and keep the US out of war. Trump didn't bother to secure public support for his tariff war or the war with Iran. Voters were justifiably angered to bear the costs of those decisions without being consulted.

1/ The US midterm election outcome wasn't about China, but there is a lesson in it for the forthcoming China policy debate in 2028. When the US public is not brought in or bought in to major foreign policy actions, it will not tolerate being told to bear costs for them. (🧵)

Winning votes is one thing. Making life more affordable is another. How much can a new Congress actually change what you pay?

Scoop: With Democrats headed to Congress with a resounding mandate for change, IL Gov. JB Pritzker - a potential 2028 candidate- is urging his party to advance an aggressive legislative and oversight agenda on Day One.
He has a 75-page roadmap.

We talk so much about Gen Z men and not enough about Gen Z women.
Young women are +56 with Dems in 2026.
Young women were +24 with Dems in 2024.
The gender gap isn’t really closing. Young men moved left, but young women did too.

It looks like every congressional district along the U.S.–Mexico border voted Democratic in this election, from San Diego to Brownsville. A remarkable political statement, especially considering how central the border has been to Donald Trump’s political rise. The very region he turned into a defining symbol of his political movement is now sending a very different message to the rest of the country.

One big consequence of the midterm blowout by Democrats: John Fetterman went from potential kingmaker if Democrats had won a 51-49 majority to mostly an irrelevant outlier, as the only Democrat backing the (very unpopular) Iran war.

The MS Secretary of State used expired Experian data to "clean up" the voter rolls, inactivating many eligible Mississippi voters who then voted by affidavit ballot. Just anecdotally, I heard stories about it being a mess, especially in DeSoto County mississippitoday.org/2026/11…

Nobody, and I mean NOBODY is touching Black voters and their consistent support for democracy and freedom in America.
The new Congress needs to stop Trump…but whoever the Dems run in 2024 needs to have an agenda for Black America front & center FROM THE START!!!

Elon Musk moving to Texas to get away from Dems, becoming the biggest partisan megadonor in history, then spending around a half-billion dollars to have his own state go blue immediately in the next election — with data centers the top gov issue — is pretty impressive

Everyone’s asking why Gen Z men are drifting from Trump. This is why. He's become the establishment he spent years railing against.

Preliminary take
Polls were right and indicated this was coming.
Hispanic voters were the key swing vote in 2024 and they swung back.
Working class voters felt pinched by inflation and blamed Trump for it rather than Biden, primarily because of tariffs.
There was about a 10 point national swing from the Trump high watermark which is 5 per cent who changed their mind. But that makes a huge difference in outcomes.
Message and organization beats money.
Thus will have little bearing on the presidential race but it perfectly identifies who the fight is about and those who are the swing voters the winner
