SELECT TRY_CONVERT(date, 'a') -- returns NULL SELECT TRY_CONVERT(date, '') - returns 1900-01-01 SELECT TRY_CONVERT(date, ' ') - returns 1900-01-01 What's so special about an empty string or a whitespace? #SQLServer

I just started trying out SSMS' dark theme, and I must admit I'm looking forward to it getting darker 🕶️

I keep hearing people say, “most programmers don’t really understand recursion.” I find that a little odd. What is poorly understood? – at Oslo, Norway

Working in an Excel spreadsheet and hit Enter a couple times too much - all of a sudden my glorious table is magically filled thanks to the works of Excel Flash Fill. #suddenfeature #TIL (gif from myonlinetraininghub.com/exce…)

Last session of the year at @MDPUGNorway presented by Vasko Bashoski - Optimizing Databases for Power BI. And thank you for learning us that the cost threshold for parallelism may actually be optimized when lower than the default value :)

Inspired by @sqldbawithbeard speaking highly of Azure Data Studio at PASS Summit, I chose to use a Notebook instead of a PowerPoint-presentation for a client demo today - and it worked out rather well. The presentation is instantly more interactive, and it looks really sleek!

Big update for PStSQLtTestGenerator. Lots of fixes, speed improvements and better tests. #tsqlt #ssdt #sqlserver powershellgallery.com/packag… I'm still looking for new ideas for basic tSQLt tests that can be generalized and therefore generated. github.com/sanderstad/PStSQL…
