Half of the opposition has been denied from running at the next elections. Yet, all of a sudden, the European Commission has no concerns about rule of law and democracy in Hungary.

More than 100 people joined our @PatriotsEU conference on liberal authoritarianism in Europe - more than attend an average meeting of the European Parliament’s LIBE Committee, @laszloan pointed out. Yet the committee responsible for defending democracy, justice and the rule of law has not even put these concerns, including the developments in Hungary, on its official agenda. “When you undo the rule of law, when you undo democracy, you’re undoing Western civilisation.” That is why we brought this debate to the European Parliament - and why we will keep raising these issues, even if Brussels would rather look the other way.

🚨🇭🇺🏳️‍🌈 Hungary's new government is moving to ALLOW LGBTQ advocacy in schools, reversing protections introduced under Orbán. And it's doing so despite MILLIONS of Hungarians voting against similar changes. PM Magyar's government is seeking to repeal a provision banning the promotion of homosexuality and gender reassignment to minors, arguing that the changes are necessary to comply with EU law. The reforms also include changes to public access to Hungary's sex-offender registry. In a 2022 referendum, roughly 3.6-3.7 million Hungarians voted NO on each of four questions involving LGBTQ-related education and content for minors, although turnout was too low for the referendum to be legally valid. The move is reigniting a fierce debate over parental rights and Brussels' influence on Hungarian schools. Source: @balazsorban_HU

Since we gutted USAID, the left hasn’t won a single presidential election in Latin America. Billions in taxpayer cash were funding NGOs, “democracy” programs, and activist networks that conveniently always backed the same side. They called it aid but it was election interference. Thank you @elonmusk for dragging this into the light. The grift is over.
Since USAID was dismantled, the left has not won a single election in Latin America, by the way.

If the EU is importing more Russian LNG than last year, how are EU countries supposed to cut imports by next year? What source and at what price?

🇺🇸America has an America first president. 🇪🇺Why aren't EU leaders "Europe first"? Global fuel markets are not very flexible. The US has lifted sanctions on Russian diesel. The EU will rather go into a fuel crisis doing nothing. Remember what von der Leyen promised back in 2022?

Von der Leyen stood next to Joe Biden and they promised that sanctions would cripple Russia's war machine and force Putin to stop the war. That was more than 4 years and 20 sanctions packages ago...

🇭🇺 What is happening in Hungary? In just a few months: retroactive, tailor-made laws. Voting rights restricted. Opposition figures barred from returning to office. And now, detention and intimidation of opposition MPs. Where are Brussels’ defenders of democracy now? We reject double standards on democracy. And we will not stay silent.

🚨The European Parliament can now set up a Special Committee to look into the invasion of Ceuta this Summer.
🇪🇸 | @Jorgebuxade: Patriots for Europe has secured 165 signatures from 25 member states for a special committee on the hybrid attack on Ceuta. Brussels looked away. We didn't. #CeutaNoSeVende #CeutaSeDefiende

164 sitting MEPs would be barred from running again in 2029 if Hungary’s new rules applied to the European Parliament. In just months: retroactive, tailor-made laws. Voting rights restricted. Opposition figures barred from returning to office. And now, detention and intimidation of opposition MPs. Those who lectured Hungary for years about democracy are remarkably silent. Where are Brussels’ defenders of democracy now?

Hungary is being turned into a vengeful dictatorship
Hungary is shifting from a free country into a socialist country, where everything is controlled by the state, in record time. No other EU country has this: an authority to take over private enterprises. Meet the new “asset recovery authority”, now fully operational. This is not an independent anti‑corruption body. It is political police set up by the new EPP government, led by PM Péter Magyar. The Authority has sweeping, unchecked powers: 👁️ Secret investigative powers: It can secretly investigate almost anyone who has ever had financial transactions involving public money: pensioners, families receiving childcare benefits, people with subsidised mortgages, even small firms that once did even a tiny contract with government. 💳 Impose a nanny on companies: It can literally take over the management of private companies. Or choose to "merely" access banking, tax and business secrets, and share them with other authorities. A total violation of private enterprise. 🗣️ Rat clause: it can force citizens to inform on others. If they refuse, fines go from 135,000 euros for individuals to 13,500,000 euros for organisations. 📆 Procedures may last 18 months, with very limited right of appeal. Like in any authoritarian country, this is sold to the public as fight for transparency. In reality, it is to intimidate businesses. When it comes to free speech, self-censorship is cheaper than actual censorship. Similarly, this is to intimidate businesses. A body like this has no place in a democracy.

The era of political show trials are back! Today the authoritarian rule in Hungary reached a new low. The judiciary is acting on the PM's personal instructions. Two months ago, during a heated outburst at the session of the Hungarian Parliament, PM Péter Magyar accused Balázs Hankó, the former Minister for Culture and now opposition MP, and threatened him with imprisonment. When Hankó rose to speak to refute the false allegations, Péter Magyar instructed the Speaker of the House to cut him off and called on the MPs from the Tisza party to publicly humiliate him.   Acting on Péter Magyar’s personal instructions, the authorities then launched a politically motivated proceeding against the former minister on false charges. Péter Magyar announced the politically motivated proceeding IN ADVANCE on social media. All of this constitutes a serious violation of the independence of the judiciary. And the PM doesn't even care to pretend that the judiciary is I dependent.
36 years after the fall of the Berlin wall and regime change in Hungary, we now prepare for the return of staged trials and politically motivated verdicts. As former culture minister in Viktor Orbán's cabinet, Balázs Hankó told reporters ahead of the vote about waving his immunity: I have answered the allegations, my conscience is clear, the police can come find me in the Parliament if they come to arrest me. In the meantime, the new PM has already called him a criminal before anything was concluded by the investigation on how cultural funds were awarded to artists. This would not be allowed in the European Parliament. In fact, announcing the verdict by the head of government echoes the staged trials of the communist regime, which in Hungary we know all too well. Mr. Hankó's immunity was waived by Parliament today. We wait for the arrest to happen.

The new Hungarian dictator is being charged with getting drunk, getting into an argument with a guy at a bar, stealing his phone and throwing it in the river. @magyarpeterMP doesn’t even deny he did it. How is such an unstable person a Prime Minister in an EU country!? 🇭🇺
🇭🇺 Hungarian parliament strips PM Magyar of immunity in Danube phone case Hungary's parliament has lifted the parliamentary immunity of Prime Minister Péter Magyar, allowing investigators to question him as a suspect in a theft case dating back to June 2024. According to prosecutors, a man filmed Magyar at the Ötkert nightclub in Budapest. After an argument, Magyar snatched the phone from his hand, pocketed it and refused to give it back. He then left the club, walked to the Danube and threw the phone into the river. Divers later recovered the roughly €400 device and returned it to its owner in working order. Magyar has never denied taking the phone, but rejects the theft charge and calls the case politically motivated. He himself asked parliament this week to lift his immunity so the investigation could proceed. The case has a history. When Magyar was still an MEP and Orbán's main challenger, Budapest asked the European Parliament to waive his immunity over the same incident. In October 2025 the EP refused, citing doubts that he could get a fair trial in Hungary. Orbán called the decision "shameful" and said Brussels could now use Magyar's immunity to extract favours from a man acting as "a Trojan horse of Ukraine in the EU." Now that the Brussels-backed Magyar sits in the prime minister's chair, the immunity he was shielded by in Strasbourg is no longer needed. Prosecutors requested it on the same day as the immunity of two Fidesz MPs, who face cases involving alleged damages worth billions of forints.

The EPP majority in the Hungarian Parliament led by Péter Magyar illegally removed the President of Hungary from office a few months ago and planted their own candidate, Mr Baka. Péter Magyar then forced the prosecutor general to resign through threats. (And many other heads of independent institutions.) President Baka has the right to put forward the candidate for the new prosecutor general. He did. The person was today voted down by the Tisza majority. Only PM Magyar gets to decide about everything. And his group in Parliament will obey whether the practice is legal or not, democratic or not. In Hungary all the written and unwritten rules of democracy are being violated on a daily basis since Péter Magyar won the elections.
