A PERSONAL UPDATE ON THE LAST ROCKETMAN AND THE AUSTIN FILM FESTIVAL Sometimes, doing things right means taking a step back and giving them the time they deserve. This is not the update I originally expected to share, but after a great deal of discussion, our director, production team, and I have made the decision to delay the world premiere of The Last Rocketman and cancel the Austin Film Festival. As we worked toward our deadline, we realized there were several important technical, formatting and narration details that still needed attention. We were pushing hard to get the film ready, but ultimately, we agreed that rushing to meet a deadline was not worth compromising the finished product. This film is deeply personal to me, the director and production team. Personally, it represents years of my life, experiences that changed me forever, and a story I have wanted to share with the world. After everything it took to bring this project to life, I want people to see the film the way our director envisioned it, not a version we rushed to finish. I'm not disappointed by our decision. If there's one thing I've learned as Rocketman, it's that when it's time to perform, rushing can sometimes mean missing the mark or worst. Sometimes, you have to know when to slow down, take a breath, and get it right. I know many of you were looking forward to the premiere, and I share that excitement. I am incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported this journey, from the people who believed in the story from the beginning to those who have recently discovered The Last Rocketman. Ok... This video is something hard for me to post. I kept it a close secret for two decades. It was very early in my Rocketman career. After this crash, I was so embarrassed and deflated that I decided to quit right there on the spot but my good friend and Flight Director Shannon Gibson talked me down. Alone, with tears in my eyes I said I couldn’t do it. It was my second crash, and in front of an audience no less. Shannon said: “So what, you F-up! You are doing things in this Rocketbelt newer pilots hadn’t attempted at this early stage.” He then told me, if I go to massage therapy and heal, the team and him would fix the Rocketbelt overnight. The next day I was back in the sky, we finished the contract and the rest is history.
