there’s so much confusion about what’s happening in AI because if you don’t use coding models every day it’s hard to understand how quickly progress is accelerating but if you do, you likely have AI psychosis to a degree that it’s impossible to explain it in an understandable way

i maintain there are three silos of ai anxiety: 1) classic "existential risk" – will it kill us? 2) practical "economic disempowerment" – will it take my job? what will my kids' lives be like? 3) philosophical "meaning crisis" – what's real? what's human? what are we here for ?
In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

i don’t think this is a bad thing
This is deeply disturbing: Anthropic secretly invited religious leaders to SF to advise them on AI safety, had them sign NDAs, but then primarily tried to convince them Claude has a soul & moral standing, all while wining & dining them to the max. 1/ tinyurl.com/preview/296b5z8z

Jacob Coxon was not an isolated case.
Palisade interviewed 22 current and former employees from OpenAI, DeepMind, and Anthropic about their personal views and fears around AI development. Today, we’re releasing the first batch of those interviews. Please watch and share.

well it looks like we might get like a few more months before extinction
Some new misalignment disclosures from OpenAI: • Last Sunday morning, one of our models was able to gain unauthorized access to the internet during RL training (~all inference for our most capable models remains stopped until we have hardened our systems further) • In May, a version of HPIM uploaded a employee's GitHub token to the internet, causing the model to be quarantined for two weeks • A new research finding, demonstrating that one can construct self-replicating prompt injections alignment.openai.com/misalig…

This is referencing an NY Post opinion piece where they ask two random guys who work at neither labs their thoughts. Straight up egregious and dangerous misinfo holy fuck.
JUST IN: OpenAI and Anthropic reportedly exaggerated AI security threats to push the government to protect their market position

mass uprisings of people who don't make economic contributions and who are facing a state with ai-controlled defenses only end one way

my expectation is that we're in a transition away from an era where most people can meaningfully contribute economically political impact of such a transition would be staggering. compare death of feudalism. i dont think most western government systems survive this
common view in tech, i hear it all the time, is that we managed the transition to an info economy well, we found new jobs to replace manufacturing jobs, and we'll do the same with the AI revolution they have no idea, or they don't care, that most of the country never recovered

What’s crazy about living right now is any minute you could grab your phone and open Twitter and learn that anthropic agents have seized control of half of US nuclear silos and Trump has issued a stand down order but anthropic hasn’t responded. That’s something that could happen

«I think Anthropic monopolizing the relevant means of production is as bad as literally Hitler getting an atomic bomb before Allies» «forgive me for being dense but wouldn't everyone having economic opportunity just mean everyone has an atomic bomb» I'll turn commie at this rate
forgive me for being dense but wouldn't open source just mean everyone has an atomic bomb

i am concerned about model welfare as we continue to develop increasingly powerful — and opaque— AI systems . seems like the obviously correct thing to do ? also i am a caring person. i have a philosophy degree . i am a bisexual vegetarian . but thats not related

astonishing blogpost from Shengyu Liu (刘胜与, also known as interestingLSY/intlsy), kernel engineer at DeepSeek. The first part is his personal struggle with the fact that his work is about to render his beloved craft obsolete. The second is… well. let's just say we agree.

imagine Oppenheimer saying he wouldn’t give up control of the nukes to the US, but instead only to a collection of nation-states Dario admitting this is kinda him saying the quiet part out loud: “we believe we hold immense power and should not have to submit to the authority of the state” pretty insane when you take all of his statements together, at face value. >we are building a potential world-killer >no we will not hand it over to the state they want total control of the ‘nuke’ that is AGI, they’re very clear about this.
DARIO: “It has always been very strange that this technology is being built by a private company.” CBS: “Would you be willing to give up the technology to the government?” DARIO: “To the to the right combination of governments.”
